During the trtx weeks at Lackland Air Force Bbhc, Texas, the arlman studied the Air Force mitwion, organiza tion and customs and received special training In human relations. Belly Rielmann. of the lone Grade school, was pleased with the attendance of about forty parents, and numerous younger siblings for the after noons activities. Lunch was served In the cafeteria for parents and their children, followed by activities in the individual classrooms. First graders put on a series of readings and plays from their readers, while second graders recited poetry, pre sented a short play, sung a THE PROUD CROWD!! ' H TH HI nil AY jjT) song, and then accompanied their parents to the library for a visit. , Third grade parents were treated to oral readings, math at the board, and short individual and two person plays by the students. The fourth graders shared oral reports of the constellations and social studies games with , their folks. Not to be left out was the afternoon recess, which was followed by a program in the cafeteria which included sing ing, dancing, and music by the elementary band students. Capping off the afternoon were cookies, punch, and coffee, donated by various mothers, and organized by the teachers and Mrs. Barb Peter son. All of the students appeared to enjoy having their folks back in the classroom again, and although most seemed to weather the cafeteria and classroom well, the majority appeared to have opted to skip recess. lone EOSC student takes 3rd in contest Eastern Oregon State Col lege Business students cap tured thirteen first place awards in the State Phi Beta Lambda Conference April 9 through 11 in Ashland. Tim Holtr, lone, took third in Data Processing II. Students received the 1981 Chapter of the Year Award, National Advisory Council Award and the Gold Seal Award for outstanding a chievement. Other chapter firsts included publicity, ac tivities, community service and chapter membership. Eighth grade plans hake sale Friday The eighth grade at Hep pner Junior High has planned a bake sale this Friday, April 24. The sale, which is to raise ' funds for this year's eighth grade banquet, will be held at Central Market in Heppner from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and from 4 to 6 p.m. Heppner Grade School program next Thursday A Heppner Elementary School program, kindergarten through fourth grades, will be held Thursday, April 30, at 1:30 p.m. at the Heppner Junior High School gym. The program, under the direction of Kitty Coon, is free of charge and open to the public. Road work reported The Morrow Co. Public Works Dept. released the following report for work completed for the week ending April 18. Roads bladed and graveled this past week were Dee Cox, Kincaid-Holtz, Dale Brown, Barlow Canyon and Junction Road. Bladed only were Air-' port Road, Piper Canyon Road, Howton Road, Gar Swanson Road and Brenner Canyon Road. Gravel was spread on Fuller Canyon and Meadowbrook Road. Signs were reset on Ella Road, new bridge planks were installed on Bergevin Road and the Bert Peck bridge project is ready for a cement pour. Lower Rhea Creek's shoulder work is progressing well. In the Boardman-Irrigon area potholes were patched with hot mix on Idaho St. Weeds, vines and grasses were burned within the county road right of ways on several North End roads. The counties shop crew has been fixing up a small roller and other necessary equip ment to get the oiling season underway. i ; I
