For instance a man named Dupont is confined in the county jail under the charge of having appropriated a blanket, to keep his little boy w arm. They were traveling with a troop of acrobats, stopped in Shedd, and when they went on the next morning the lady of the hou e sent on and had lhe man ar rested tor stealing the blanket. Ax Important Move. The Albany & Astoria Railway Company of this city has pur chased the entire plant of Searle oc Deane, w hich a a3 used on the Oregon Pacific road. Some fuither important developments concerning the movements of this road may be expected soon. A Toa of Snntiitm Ore. Messrs. W. F. Read and ('apt. K. J. Lanning have returned from the mines of the Albany Mining iv Milling Co., up the Santiaua. They brought out a ton of ore, which will be shipped to Son Francisco for a practical working test. Tin; Salem Statesman says: Tiie state fish commission announces itself as being practically opposed to the introduction of cattish in any of the waters of Oregon, saying that they are enemies to our sal mon aud other fod fishes, and that our fish are superior to Catfish in every respect, while the latter w as of no commercial value. The commission has been applied to for catfish to introduce into lakes aad streams, but for the rea-ons above 6tated has declined to fur nish them. Fine ISargain. Yesterday G. L. Blackmail bought of Fred Grimmer S0 acres of land, two miles above the ferry in Benton county, for $1500. The land contains an excellent stone quarry, with cropping that indi cate granite of a superior quality, and will undoubtedly prove very valuable. A (iocxl Investment. A fam ily named Parker, consisting of the :ather, mother and seven children, ranging in age from eight months to 12 years, and a brother-indaw named Wagner, all recently from Dakota, entered a rickety boat at Newport wharf to cross to South Beach on the way to a ranch that had been purchased by Parker. The boat got into the breakers and was capsized, and all the inmates executing Parker.whoswam ashore, ! w ere drowned. The bodies of Mrs. , Parker and six of the children have been recovered.
