Mr. John Sizemore, of Sam’s Valley, is now establishing himself in the business of raising sorghum and manufacturing sugar and syrup. The soil of Sam’3 Valley is peculiarly adapted to the growth of corn, and where corn can bo succesbfally produced sorghum •will succeed. When the amount of sugar and syrup consumed in this county alone is taken into consideration a market is found for many thousand dollars’ worth of a staple article of i trade, now imported, but which could be produced at home. In many of the > North • eastern and Middle States i sorghum is successfully raised and b splendid articlos of sugar-and syrup ‘ are manufactured therefrom. The ma chinery required to crush the cane costs but little. Two or three farms could unite in one neighborhood and, at but little cost, erect a mill with suf ficient capacity to be profitable. This is an item worthy of the consideration of those who wish to add to the prof its of the farm and curtail their an nual outlay. —------ -♦ ♦ ♦------------- modified its projects of reform.
