This can be accomplished using • Excellent Customer Service How Successful Can Your Business Be Without It? Unfortunately, many business own ers fail to recognize the importance of providing good customer service. As long as the customer’s basic needs are met. business owners may think they have done their job. To achieve excellent customer ser vice, a business owner must have high standards where the customer is con cerned and also have a program in place to “teach” customer service to all employees. Employers often make the mistake of thinking the employees they hire know how to be polite and how to provide ex cellent customer service. In today’s world, this is not always the case. Many people have not been raised in environments that stress man ners and may treat customers badly not because they don’t care ... but because they don't know any better. By setting a good example and pro viding frequent customer service training, business owners can substantially im prove their company’s public image. Remember, customers can choose where they shop and by showing them you appreciate their business, you are making an investment in the continued success of your company. You may spend your days just hop ing enough customers will come into your business so you can make money and pay your expenses. But do you ever stop and take a good look at what customers are seeing when they walk through your front door? The first impression your customers have of your business is the way it looks. You may have wonderful products, ex cellent prices, and great customer service, but unless your business “looks good" many customers won't even come through the front door. Business owners can do many things to make sure their business gives a great first impression. Here are some suggestions: • Is your store or shop as clean as it could be? • • • Are your windows and windowsills clean? Is there trash or dirt on the sidewalk by your entrance? Keep display shelves a distance from the front door, so it will be easy to walk into your store/shop. Since business owners come and go in and out of their businesses each day. many times they don’t really “see" what potential customers might be seeing. Take some pictures of the entrance to your store/shop. Then take them home and look at them objectively when other things aren't distracting you. What you see might surprise you! By taking a good look at the entrance to your store/shop. you might be able to make positive changes that w ill make your busi ness one customers want to visit.
