It’s Happening at Chinook Winds ... Leonard and Duran Face Off in Celebrity Events at Commotion at the Ocean II Fisher Hired as Keno Manager Siletz Tribal member Chris Fisher has been hired as the Keno manager for Chinook Winds Casino effective Oct. 23, 2000. Fisher has been with Chinook Winds for five years and has held several positions, including cage supervisor; interim cage manager; guest services dual rate supervisor; assistant Keno/ Bingo manager; and interim Keno/ Bingo manager. Having held the position of assistant Keno manager, Fisher has firsthand knowledge of the program. In the future, look forward to some very positive changes in Keno, including a Keno tournament, two cash giveaways in 2001, and special prizes for regular Keno players. Fisher already has implemented new training techniques to ensure that employees are properly trained and feel comfortable with Keno before they start writing Keno tickets, as well as an employee incentive program. As a member of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, Fisher stated, “I am very proud to be a Siletz Tribal by Teresa Simmons Chris Fisher member and very grateful to the Siletz Tribe for giving me the opportunity to do something I always dreamed of doing. I plan on making a positive impact on the Keno department and bringing the Keno revenues up in 2001. “Chinook Winds Casino is a great place to work. The casino is giving many tribal members the opportunity to better themselves and provide a better quality of life for themselves and their families. Commotion at the Ocean II comes to Chinook Winds Casino & Convention Center on April 20-21. It features boxing legends Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran in “friendly competition” as part of a two-day championship boxing event. Boxing fans won’t want to miss this “must see” event! Meet Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran on April 20 and 21. They will appear at a Celebrity Party on April 20 from 6-9 p.m., complete with hors d’ oeuvres, autographs, and photos. The party is open to all ages and costs $15. On April 21, Leonard and Duran will take part in Celebrity Blackjack/Slot tournaments from noon to 5 p.m. Both events are open to the public. Entry fees are $25 for the Blackjack tournament with no re-buys and $20 for the Slot Tournament. Leonard and Duran also will make guest appearances at the fights. The contenders’ weigh-in will be held on April 20 at 3 p.m. and will be open to the public. Doors open for the championship title fights at 5 p.m. on April 21 in the convention center, with undercard bouts beginning at 6 p.m. event and final bout of the night pits boxing talent Gary up and coming Jones from Washington, “Fast Hands” fighter Candy” D.C., against local Robertson of Portland, Q u a n d r y compete in a 12-round Ore., as they Intercontinental Jr. match for the IBA Championship title. Middleweight 9 inches, weighing in at Standing 5 feet 154 pounds, 23 year-old Gary “Fast 17-1-0 record with nine Hands” Jones has a finalist in the 1996 knockouts. He was a very close decision to Olympic trials, losing a after beating Vargas twice Fernando Vargas in the finals was a national amateur during their amateur careers. He also champion and won more than 150 fights. As a professional, Jones got off to a great start by knocking out Drew Chaney in the first round of his pro debut. Twenty-eight-year-old “Candy” Quandry Robertson has an 11 -3-0 record with * nine knockouts. Robertson started his professional boxing career in August 1997 against Steve Li. He knocked Li out in the first round and suddenly a local fighter from Portland became a promising young prospect. He would go on to knock out his next four opponents in the first round. An eight-round decision against Augustine Renteria solidified Robertson’s position as an emerging young star in the junior middleweight division. The 5 foot 10 inch, 154 pound fighter is anxious to show the Northwest what he can do. The first title fight features two promising women boxers as they face off in a 10-round match, competing for the WIBF Jr. Middleweight World Championship title. Lisa Holewyne from Austin, Texas, will square off against Marischa Sjauw en Wa of Surinam. Standing 5 feet 9 inches and weighing 140 pounds, the 35-year-old Holewyne's record stands at 12-7-1 with five knockouts. Marischa Sjauw en Wa stands 5 feet 5inches, weighs in between 135-147 pounds, and has a 3-4-0 record with three knockouts. Tiered seating is available, offering fans an unobstructed view of this exciting boxing event. Tickets are priced at $30, $50, $125, $150 and $200 for ringside seats.
