Ben Akootchook Jacob Henry 5 THE EARTHQUAKE A couple weeks ago while I was listening to jazz music, the news broke into the program. The re porter said that there had been an earthquake in Salem, Portland and other places. Do you know that I never even felt it? Three or four years ago when I was at Mt. Edgecumb hospital there was a strong earthquake there. It was the first earthquake that I had ever felt. It just jolted the hospital. I thought that the world was surely coming to an end J ,wf sTso scared that I didn’t know that I was praying until my room mate told me. 1 am glad that I did not feel this earthquake because I know how it feels. I guess we just want our earth to be quiet and not shake. Welch Mathalau We had an earthquake shortly after the Columbus Day storm. It happened while I was in my room. A ll of a sudden I heard a rumbling ,s°und- 1 looked at the floor and the door of the room. Everything ^ e5Ped ,to bTe swinging back and forth. Then I realized that it was an earthquake. The next day in school I found what causes earthquakes. They are caused by changes far beneath the earth’s surface or faults. Bently Mark ELECTIONS A couple of months ago we held an election to elect officers for our Student .Council, All the boys and girls, who were candidates, went to each classroom and spoke to the students. They explained how they would handle the office for which he or she was a candidate. An election is not just for fun. io he able to hold an election and duty 1S 3 privilege- To vote is our When you are going to vote for officers for a class or student coun cil you should elect the best per son for the job. You should know about the candidates, think, and then vote. No one should tell you how to vote. We live in a free country. ELECTION OF OFFICERS The eight and ninth grades elect ed the following class officers: Phyllis Young, president; Stanley Custer, vice president; Monica Usugan, secretary; Raymond Black- goat, treasurer.
