As 1 drew my bait temptingly across tho pool in search of a hungry bass, I noticed a yollow butterfly winging its zigzag flight across the Bhallow mentioned, and closo to tho surfaco of tho water. When half way across, a small bass, probably not ovor a quarter pound weight, suddenly leaped from tho water, struck tho butterfly with unerring aim, and fell back with a splash in tho shallows. Tho butter fly was hit hard, as it fell dead or stunned in tho stream about throo feet from whero the boss had inter cepted its flight, but unfortunately tho littlo gladiator failed to recover his prize, as it floated undisturbed down into tho pool below. A little ovor a hundred years ago that is to eay, in tho year 1788 tho thon reigning sultan of Morocco took as his wifo a rod haired and bluo eyed Irish girl, tho young widow of a sorgoant of engineers who had died in Morocco. Her son, known as Mulai Yozztd, inherited much of hor pluck and spirit, and was in open rebellion at tho timo of his father's death. It is a very open question how much of tho blood of this Irish lassio runs in the veins of tho present sultan of Morocco, Muloyol-Hassnn, but it is at least intorosting to assume that tho known partiality of thisrulor for tho British nation is duo to tho romantic marriago which his ancestor mado over a century ago.
