The ANK Garden Club recei ved the Care award for out standing support of the World Gardening program of the Na tional Council of State garden clubs. ANK also received a citation of appreciation for money sent to Costa Rica for landscaping, vegetable and flo wer seeds, gardening tools and supplies. Contributions are used to increase food pro duction and better nutrition in impoverished areas. Garden clubs also are helping farmers Increase cultivated acreage with supplies for pump houses for irrigation systems. Douglas Harrison, a nephew of the Newgens spent a week at the home of Ora Newgen. He has returned to his home in Portland. While Mr. Harrison was a visitor here, he and Mr. and Mrs. Ora Newgen attended a Harrison-Howard reunion which was held at Fairfield, Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Lorensen, Harriet and Gloria spent F ri day evening at the NampaSnake River Stampede. OREGON TRAIL GRANGE Oregon Trail Grange mem bers met in regular session Thursday evening, July 19, with Master Ernie Metcalf presiding. Agriculture Chairman Harold Kurtz reported on an article stating that “An Apple a Day Not Only Keeps the Doctor Away, But Keeps the Dentist Away Also.” The article stated that chewing an apple provided 95% efficiency in cleaning teeth compared to 65% efficiency of the tooth brush. A quiz on Grange parli- mentary procedure was con tinued by Lecturer Marguerite Moss. Winners of awards for having the most correct ans wers were. Don Somers, Orma Cleaver, and Stanley Sisson. Members voted to meet Thursday evening 8:30 p.m., August 23 instead of August 16 because of conflicting dates of the County Fair. Refreshments were served by the Stanley Sisson and Elvin Ballou couples. Mrs. Moss announced that Bruce Sarazin will be guest speaker at the next regular meeting August 2, and will show a film on solid waste prob lems in Malheur County. Hosts for the evening will be Mr. and Mrs. Duane Buchtel and Mrs. Leroy Herrman. All Grange members are urged to attend. EVENTS AROUND ADRIAN ADRIAN - Mr. and Mrs. George DeHaven were guests at a birthday dinner Sunday at he home of their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Danny Skerjanec of Ontario, in honor of George’s birthday. Mrs. K. I. Peterson enter tained Koffee Klatch at her home in Adrian Wednesday af- ter noon. Those attending from Adrian were Mrs. Gladys Thomas, Mrs. Sue Ashcraft and Mrs. Oscar Schafer. Mr. and Mrs. Luit Stam visi ted Mr. and Mrs. K. 1. Pater son Friday afternoon. Mrs. Mabie Piercy went to Boise Wednesday to see her sister, Mildred Graham at the Convelesant Hospital in Boise. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Looney and Clifford Looney and boys went to the Lookout at South Moun tain Sunday where Mary Looney is working this summer. Mr. and Mrs. Vern Parker at tended a class reunion in On tario Saturday evening where they attended a class banquet. Sunday they attended a picnic at the Nyssa Park. The reunion was for the Nyssa High School Classes of 1934-1935-1936 and 1937. A large crowd attended. Wednesday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Parker and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Webb had a party for Mrs. Ethel Smith to show her their appreciation for the many years of service she had extended them. The guests were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Webb, Mr. and Mrs. George Cart wright, Mrs. Clay Webb, Myrtle Parker. The group presented her with a money tree. Mrs. Sue Ashcraft went to Rigby, Idaho last Wednesday where she visited her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kail- lian, and several nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law. Mrs. Sue Ashcraft attended an Ashcraft family reunion the 7 and 8 of July at Mason Dam out of Baker. About 39 relatives attended. The group enjoyed boating and fishing. Sunday Mrs. Sue Ashcraft visited her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Drown in Nyssa. She also visited her niece and nephew and family, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Frederickson in Nyssa.
