NYSSA, OREGON PAGE FOUK 7 TUBERCULOSIS CAoLS ARE FOUNT The report of the 1947 X-ray survey held in Malheur county last September has Just been received, according to Margaret Beattie, ex ecutive score! ary of the Malheur County Tuberculosa! and Heall.i association. Out of the 1681 films taken, sev- e n positive cases o f tuberculosi- were found, four of minimal leg ions and three moderately advanced trees. Fifty-eight cases of non- tuberculosis pathology, includin' such things as cancer and heart, lung and rib abnormalities, were discovered. •‘Of the total number of films taken, 21 percent were of children, 14 years of age or under. This is a situation we hope to correct this year", said Dr L. A Maulding, county heilth officer. “ As the re infection type of tuberculosis which we are looking for is extremely raTe In children It Is poor business to X-ray large numbers of children. This fall we nope to X-ray tar more adults and fewer children. The seVen positive cases found In last j year's survey were all adults, rang in g in age from 20 to 69 years.” . ,-..i x ray survey is plan- ; ■eJ fur the midd e of October, tii? ' exact dates to be determined at a Meeting July 2.1 of representatives >f the four sponsoring agencies, tie county and . late tuber ul-. ind health a social ions and the ou"ty and state health depart ments. According to Dr. M auldin; the X-ray survey Is an excelleenr meth od of picking up early cases of tuberculosis wh.eh are not fo1 n I in other ways. The earlier a caie Is found the greater the chance ot e »very. The seven cases found r. last fall's urvey were all early ' or orly mo erately advanced cas es. Sin e early tuberculosis rarely shows any signs or symptoms th :e people probably did not know be fore that thev had the disease. Dr. Maulding said.
