Helping Homemakers Time was when the lady of the house could get through her daily routine with a few housedresscs and aprons. Today, however, then is another consideration her dual role: as a homemakcr with a mil lion hectic chores and, during lei sure hours, as an active partici pant in community life. Her ward robe, too, requires more attention and must serve a dual function. With this consideration in mind, many sportswear designers have come up with smart creations for the homemaker in blue work den imdesigns that are functional be cause of the very nature of the! rugged fabric. Among the more popular items for spring are the blue denim wrap skirt and culotte combined with attractive coordinates. These outfits will see a woman through the most strenuous household chores and whisk her smartly through an afternoon of meetings and shopping. That dreaded doorbell can now ring a dozen times a day without being answered with the exclama tion, "I'm a mess!" thanks to the navy work denim tent dress and loose-back shift treated with such accents as calico trim and red or white stitching. The return of blue denim bell bottom pants should please the woman who likes the comfort of slacks but prefers to avoid the "skin-tight" look. COAT PLUS DRESS The coat takes a dress for an important ensemble look in spring '63. One attractive exam ple is the sleeveless coat with a pouf-sleeved dress. One color of shoe make-up can be removed by the kit's special cleaner conditioner just as nail polish is taken off. so that a new color can be put on. Fashion-wise and thrifty women love the make-up because one good pair of perfect fitting pumps can be chanced for each lunch eon, tea or dinner party to match the suit or dress worn. Bridal consultants suggest that bridesmaids color their pumps with shoe make-up to match per- fectly the pastel tints or dramatic tones of bridesmaids' dresses Then the pumps may be changed to a different color for another wedding party. Brides themselves are also us ing the make-up to paint lilies of the valley on their satin pumps, or decorating toes or heels with silver glitter, or painting with glitter wedding rings on the toes of their bridal shoes. On high school and college cam puses coeds color their shoes the school colors for baseball games or track meets. We call it "coordina tion" or "mix-and-match." And what a great little gimmick it is for stretching a wardrobe! Separates aren't news. But the wide variety of available coordi nated items certainly is. Colors are mostly subdued soft green, mist blue, olive, bone and brown. Separates add mileage to wardrobe. And thoughtfully composed groups can take the wearer smartly to any informal event, right around the clock and the weekend. FOCI'S ON SLEEVES Sleeves are a focal point o( fashion news this season.
