Selecting one's own shoes is one of the real milestones in growing up. No more of this kid stuff or waiting lo "grow into" shoes. Flats come in hundreds of styles and colors and have become uni versally popular with t h c high school crowd. The plain flats for everyday become glamorous cre ations with the addition of trim. Imports from Ualy in the cloth- !.s line have long been popular and the Italian label on bow3 and buckles has had equal acceptance 'Young people are not timid ahout fashion," . is the way Jess House of House of Shoes explains the teen-age approach. "The wild or the style, the more eye-catching it is and the more quickly they ac cept it." At the House of Shoes, the high school crowd gains another meas ure of independence through the successful teen accounts which it controlled charge system. The proportion of skipped pay ments among the youngsters is a lot lower than among adults, too, House reports. It is always youth which brings forth new, untried ideas but the critics should bear in mind that unconventionality can be entirely harmless (even by their standards) and does not mean a lack of per sonal responsibility.
