SUNDAY, JULY 21, 1963 At The Pool rf' f c Summer is here and the city's swimming pools are filled with small children, swim teachers and the sound of splashing and churning water. At both Jackson and Hawthorne pools lessons are being given for about 200 youngsters under the supervision of the Medford Recreation department and the Jackson county chapter, American Red Cross- While two or three groups are receiving instruction, members of the next set of classes line up at the entrance waiting for their turn to be checked in and report to their teachers. This group of youngsters waited at the en trance to Hawthorne pool Tuesday morning, with two or three watchful mothers in the background. PiCv . iff 'si ' ' tins 11 j ll If f tS2r f ? 3 f . " ,1,.- ,'r':'r Sandra Gannon, employed by the city at Hawthorne pool, checked out locker bas kets for Danny and Eric Brandenburg who are in a Tuesday morning class. A new scries of classes will open August 5, and Larry Albright, manager of the two pools, states that children not, in the present series will be given preference when enrollment time comes. Others w ill be added until the classes are full. Linda has a heavy schedule, teaching a swim team, the morn ing classes and a group of p e-schoolers in the evening. Shane Forde, another of the three teachers at Hawthorne pool, demonstrates arm movements to one of her classes. Because they must speak up loudly and distinct ly above the pool noises, teachers are sometime! hoarse by noon.
