Chapman, 25, is presently football coach at Springfield High school. His duties at Wll liamette will also include in struction in physical educa tion. Chapman, a native of Cul ver City, Calif.; replaces Jer ry Long who recently became an assistant football coach un der Tommy Prothro at Ore gon State college. During his sports career at Oregon under coach Len Cas anova, .Chapman was named center on the International News Service (INS) all-coast football squad of 1957. Under Spiegelberg A three-year letterman, the six-footer was co-captain of the U of O Rose Bowl team in 1958. In' high school, Chapman's prep career was under the guidance of Medford's Fred Spiegelberg. Chapman was co captain for the state team in the 1954 prep Shrine game. Chapman graduated from Oregon in 1958 after major ing in education. He has been at Springfield High since 1959 teaching his tory and assisting in track along with the chief football Job. Medford Girls High Scorers In Pin Tourney Beckl Barlow, Medford, won the high game with han dicap trophy for a 240 score in the junior girls state com petition held last week end In conjunct-ion with the women's state tourney's at North Bend. Pat Daigle, Medford, scored high series scratch with a 539. ' Medford teams placed fourth and fifth in the tourna ment. Bateman's Bichfield Cafe took fourth with a count of 2674 with handicap and Rogue Equipment Service had 2670 for the fifth spot trophy. Bateman's scores, scratch included Miss Daigle 539, Jan Bateman 388, Martha Gifford 396, Carol Booth 424 and Bar bara Champion 351. For Rogue Equipment Miss Bar low had 458, Jane Daigle 365, Connie Gregg 352, Susan Pat terson 373 and Phyllis Tosh 435 . Mrs. Wanda Booth was among trophy recipients as coach of the team. Bill Rhyne, Shasta coach, also was ill. Cavemen Track Meet; Tornado Second Grants Pass high scored strongly with its depth in the late events to win the Rotary club track and field meet at Grants Pass yesterday after noon. Medford was in front with 10 events recorded but the Cavemen of GP ran one, two, four in the 880 to take the lead, strengthened it with a sweep of the first three places in the pole vault and closed out with one, two, five in the discus. With first places in five events, the Cavemen ran up 83 points. Medford, with six first spots, was second with 66 27. Roseburg scored 29 47, Crater 24 17 and Rogue River 2. No meet rec ords fell. "Mike Crunigan took the mile for Roseburg and win ners, for Crater were Wayne Martin in the javelin and John Champ in the low hurdles. Double Winners Mike Hood ' and Phil Hum phreys were the meets only double . winners and they helped Medford to victory in the half-mile relay. Hood took the high hurdles and the broad jump. He hit a couple of hurdles in the low barriers in. a bid for a triple. Hum phreys took the 100 and 220 yard, dashes and anchored the relay effort. Tom Bortis took the other Medford first in the shot put. . Al Staley picked up Grants Pass blue ribbon in , the quarter-mile after Clyde Murray had won the high jump for GP. Bill Chronister took the half-mile for the Cavemen. In the pole vault Jay Hughes and Dave Ricks of the Cave men tied for first and Vic Van Koten . claimed third.
