According to official infor mation, the TWA Super-Constellation had been in a hold ing pattern at Linden, N. J, and the UAL DC-8 Jetliner at Preston, N. J., checpoint located near N. J. Route 9 not far away. Both aircraft had plenty of altitude-the TWA plane at 6,000 feet, and the UAL jet at 5,000 feet, The TWA aircraft destina tion was LaGuardia airport, and was in the process of be ing cleared for approach. The UAL jet was headed for, but as yet had not been given clearance to land, at N. Y. In ternational airport (Idlewild) About 10:35 a.m. the two air craft collided in midair. Clarence Summers, Eugene, association president, main tained that since motels have no inventories but pay heavy personal and real property taxes a net business tax would be an added burden with no compensating relief. "The situation is different with a retailer," he continued. "He can afford a net business tax if he has relief through in ventory tax elimination. We wpuld pay all our present taxes and the business tax1 also." Edward F. Bolt, of tha Homestead on the Rogue, Gold Hill; Max P. Weston, Brownell motel, and H. A. Mauck, Travelodge motel, both Medford, all represented Jackson county at the two-day planning session.
