Time trials are set for 7 p.m. First race, the trophy dash, is planned for 8 p.m., promptly. Pollard showed his cham pionship form on July 4 at Kugcnc. He drove lo a deci sive victory over Ernie Koch, Vancouver, Wash., who had been about unbeatable as long as his equipment stayed together. Art Is considered a true champion because he seeks tough competition. He likes to race at Ashland be cause It is his only chance lo run against the very fast curs from California. Since Bob Bcnefield, Red ding, Calif., blew up his Chev rolet motor at the last Ash land event, he has installed a fullv modified Pontiac en gine in his No. 97. With this caliber of equipment, there's potential for a fast and ram bunctious evening at the speedway. BACK TO JERSEY Jersey City, N.J. -OIPD-Somc 7,500 fans were expected to welcome International league baseball back to Jersey City tonight when the transplanted Havana Sugar Kings play their first home game at Roos evelt Stadium. Dairy Maids Play Eugene Rogue Valley Dairy Maids entertain a long standing rival In women's Softball this week end. Their guests will be the Eugene McCulloch Chain Saw team. Scuffles are set for 8 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Memorial stadium, White City. Although the Maids have played firs', and second half games wiUi five of their Northwest Women's Major league adversaries, results of this Eugene scries will go into the first half standings of the loop. The tangles will be the first contention between the Rogue Valley and Emerald city teams this season. Last report showed Eugene ranked third in the league's first half standings and Rogue Valley running fifth. The Chain Saw lists three all staters on Its 1060 roster, Carolyn Jones, Sharon Knight nnd Linda McKay. Eugene's No. 1 pitcher, Lois Winn, has one of the top rec ords in the league. It was 8-3 at last report. Another tosser, Karen Kirkmiro was 1-2. Pat Barron (5-6) and Ellen Calla ghan (4-5) likely will handle pitching for the Dairy Maids. CURTIS CUPPERS WIN Cincinnati, Ohio OJPU-A star- studded foursome, which in cluded three Curtis Cup play ers, met today in the semi finals of the Women's Trans Mississippi Golf Tournament. SPEEDWAY A Keglers Vie At Ashland In RV Loop Mcdford Bowling lanes baseball team, which has not met a foe in Rogue Valley league competition for three weeks, engages one of the league leaders on Sunday. Ashland will be host to the Keglers. First game of the dou blcheader will be at 1 p.m. on the Southern Oregon college diamond. The Lithians of Ashland are tied with Roscburg for the loop lead and Mcdford holds down third in the stand ings. Since Roscburg has no league activity this week, Ashland has the opportunity to assume lone leadership in the conference. By the same token, Ashland setbacks at the hands of Mcdford, or even a split, will drop the Lithians back of Roseburg's White Sox. Ashland twice has defeated Mcdford in league play. Other league contention on Sunday will take Grants Pass to Crescent City, Calif., for two games. ON DISABLED LIST Detroit -fl!PD- The Detroit Tigers have placed pitcher Paul Foytack on the disabled list to make room for rookie Phil Regan. Dennis Bauman Places Third In National Junior Bowling; Jaycee Team Third in State Dennis Bnuman, Mcdford, was third high Individual In the nation and the Jaycee senior boys team, Medford, was the Oregon state cham pion, according to results of the 15th annual American Junior Bowling congress mallographic tournament just announced here. Bauman, who had a 661 scratch scries in this year's competition, was a member of the 1957 state championship team. The Jaycee quintet, made up of Ron Bauman, Mike Dwyer, Dennis Dwyer, Lance Jennings and Ralph Goode, compiled a 2877 score to rank 63lh nationally. Bauman senior boys team of Larry Jones, Tom Bortis, Jerry Zcm licka, Larry LitUe and Den nis Bauman had 81st position with 2866. The Cool Bowlers junior girLs team of Medford was 99th In its category with 2454. Members are Judy Dixson, Judy Forler, Karen Rule, Jean Farley and Ingrid Bergstrom.
