(Landis phoio) Stevens-Armstrong Rites Held at Nazarene Church Miss Denise Stevens, daugh - ter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilber Stevens, 1208 Saling avenue: became the bride of Roland R Armstrong, Central Point, in rites held Friday, February 28, at the First Church of The .Nazarene. The bridegroom is a son of " Mr. and Mrs James F. Arm . -strong, 241 Snowy Butte road, .Central Point. : The Rev. Harold M. Sanner officiated at the double ring i ceremony held at 8 o'clock in ithe evening attended by ap proximately 100 relatives and friends. Mr. Stevens gave his daugh ter in marriage. The bride wore a ballerina length gown of Chantilly lace over white slipper satin. Her shoulder ; length veil was held by two circlets of lace petals edged t with pearls and she carried fa bouquet of three white or chids encircled. by pink and - white carnations. Mrs. J. Lee Hammonds, ? cousin of the bride, was ma tron of honor and Miss Lois Tompkins, another cousin, ; Phoenix, and Miss Berta Crip tpin, were bridesmaids. Mrs. ; Hammonds wore a ballerina length lavender gown and car- tried a white orchid encircled Iwith carnations. Miss Tomp- - - : j T : r-..;-...:.. ballerina length gowns of pink jand yellow, respectively, and carried bouquets ox pinK ana wnite carnations. Ralph Dillon was best man, and James D. Armstrong, r Ashland, brother of the bride 2 groom, and Wilber Stevens Jr., brother of the bride, were ushers. 1 Ring bearer was Douglas 'f Webb, cousin of the bride, and ithe flower girl was Pamela - Kornstad. r- Baskets of whitt chrysan themums with pink stock and -pink carnations decorated the sanctuary. Pink and white carnations were used at the reception and the table was c decorated with daisies and ' fern. ' Miss Marilyn Shepard played the traditional wed ding music. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Stevens chose a pale blue dress with, white acces- sories. Mrs. Armstrong wore a navy blue dress with white "., accessories. Mrs. O. L.. Tompkins, aunt of the bride, cut and served the cake. Mrs. J. D Armstrong, sister-in-law of the bridegroom, presided at the punch bowl. Mrs. Charles A. Le Schensky and Mrs. M. B. Webb Jr., aunts of the bride, were in charge of the gift and guest books. After a wedding trip the bride and bridegroom will be at home at 241 Snowy Butte road, Central Point. For trav eling the-bride chose a black wool suit with bone colored accessories. The bride attended Jackson ville and M ed f o r d High schools and the bridegroom is a graduate of Crater High school. Through her mother's fam ily, the bride is a descendant of Virginia Wiley, early-day heroine known in the Virgin ia and Kentucky territory. Her father's family were early Jackson county settlers, and she is a granddaughter of Al bert Stevens, for whom Stev ens street is named, and a grandniece of George Stevens. Among, the out of -town guests attending the wedding were M. B. Webb, grandfather of the bride, and Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Webb Jr., aunt and uncle of the bride, all of Yreka, Calif. A buffet dinner was given by the bride's parents follow ing the wedding rehearsal. . Chief to Speak For PTA Unit MedfordPolice Chief Charles Champlin will speak on "Your Child and the Po lice" at a meeting of Jeffer son Parent-Teacher associa tion Tuesday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. The association will meet in the school cafeteria. A baked foods sale will be held during the evening. Chil dren are welcome to - attend this meeting with their par ents, officers state, but regu lar child care will not be pro vided. A. Pars ley. Mrs. Maude Breeding, Mrs. Goldie Semon and Mrs. Mary Williamson are new members of the club. Membership in the club is open to all civic minded women of Rogue Riv er and vicinity. Series of Meetings Planned this Week By Baptist Women Circles of the Woman's Missionary union of First Southern Baptist church will meet this week to observe the annual week of prayer. Circles 1 and 2 will com bine and their meetings will be held at the homes of Mrs. Margaret Covey and Mrs. James Funston Monday and Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. On Wednesday and Thursday the circles will meet with Mrs. Violet Williams and Mrs. Avis Hobbs at 10 a.m. Mrs. Covey and Mrs. Williams will have charge of the program. Circle 3 will meet at the homes of Mrs. Juanita Klus man Monday and Wednesday and with Mrs. Betty Holm strom Tuesday and Thursday at 10 a.m. Mrs. Tilda Snyder and Mrs. Frances - Gilchrist will be in charge. . The series of meetings will be terminated with a potluck dinner at the church Friday at 6:30 p.m. for families and friends of the union members. Labrador Slides Planned Monday At Senior Center Colored slides of Labrador will be shown by Ralph Weiss Monday at 1 p.m. at the Sen ior Activity Center, 601 East Jackson street, according to Dr. Frank Roberts, leader of the Arm Chair Travel group. Edward Root, music direc tor, will be at the center Mon day at 11 a.m. to meet with the new class of beginners who wish to learn to play an instrument or to practice on an instrument they formerly played. Last week, Mr. Root was unable to be at the center for this class for w h ic h there have been several 'registra tions, but he will conduct this training every Monday morn ing in the future. " A total of 186 men and women, used the facilities of the center during February, according to the guest book kept by the hostesses for each day. This month the commit tee hopes to offer classes in copper tooling, cake decorat ing and dramatics, in addi tion to the oil painting, wood carving, Spanish and orches tra classes now meeting each week. One of the leading roles in the play is taken by Frank Buchter, well known for his many outstanding perform ances in Footlighter plays. In addition, Mr. Butchter is a capable director, is business manager for the group and if need be, paints scenery or sells tickets. Also playing a leading role is Mrs. Charles -Tarvin, wife of the director. Mrs. Tarvin, who plays Rosemary Sydney, the role, created by Rosalind Russell in the move, has. also apeared in many Footlighter plays including "The Solid Gold Cadillac" and "On the Bridge at ."Midnight." Mrs. Tarvin, employed ;at the pub lic library in Medford, has been with Footlighters since 1949. .. In "Picnic" the role of Rose mary Sydney is that of a spin ister school teacher and one of her scenes, in which the teacher innocently becomes tipsy, is said to be hilarious. Mrs. .Audrey (Aluin) Reiss is cast as Christine Schoen walder, another school teach er. Mrs. Reiss will be remem bered for her appearance in "On the Bridge at Midnight" and other Footlighter players. Mr. and Mrs. Reiss came here from Eugene; Mr., Reiss is with Union Pacific and Mrs. Reiss is a dental assistant. An Ashland resident, Mrs. Virginia (Joseph) Murphy, plays the role, of Irma Kron- kite, another teacher. Mrs. Murphy has been in the cast of two Footlighter plays. The Murphys came here from De troit, and Mr. Murphy is a student at Southern Oregon college. Announced ' ; High school and junior high school students have been invited by ' Medford Women's ' Christian Temper ance Union board members to participate in a. poster and essay contest for which cash prizes will be awarded. ' The poster titled "Alcohol Makes an Unhappy Home" must be not larger than 8V by 11 inches, . it is stated, while the essay, titled "Total Abstinence is an Asset ' to Success" shoud be composed of not more than 500 words; A committee will judge and the decisions will be fin al, according to information received. Groups of young people have been contacted through churches regarding the contest and others are in vited to enter. Posters and essays are to be turned in by April 29 and for further information the president of the WCTU, Mrs. G. O. Sanden, may be called at SPring 2-7906. District Council Meets Here Today The fourth . district council of Oregon. Townsend clubs will convene at the Carpen ters hall, 123ii West Main street, at 10 o'clock today. Finis L.
