(Knackstedt photo) Twin Sisters Celebrate Leap Year Anniversaries Leap year birthdays were the occasion for a family re union held February 28 at " the home of Mr. and Mrs Vera Buseman, 221 Vancouv er ave. The event celebrated the birthdays of Mrs. Buse man's mother. Mrs. Alex Hayes, Shedd, Ore., and Mrs Hayes twin sister, Mrs. A. B, Wolber, Ashland. The two women celebrated their "14th" birthday. A buffet dinner was served the guests and a large heart- shaped decorated cake was used as a centerpiece. Both women were presented many gifts. Those attending in addi tion to the honored guests were: Alex Hayes, Shedd; their son, Mr. and Mrs. Har ry Hayes, Dianna and Ray of Areata,. Calif.; their daugh ters, Mr-- and Mrs. Harold Reed, Tommy and Gary of "Areata; Mr. and Mrs. Dan Clark and children, Connie, Danny ; and Kelly of Halsey; Miss Lee Hayes, Shedd, and the host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Buseman and da- ghters, Elaine and Clau dia. - Another son, Wendall Hay es and family of Medford were unable to attend because of illness. . Accompanying Mrs. Wolb er was her husband, Mr. Wol ber, Ashland, a n d Mr. Wolber's sons, Jerry Doran, Ashland, and Mr. and Mrs Robert Doran and son Jerry, Medford. A sister of the two wom en, Mrs. Eleanor McG.'ew, Applegate, was present, also her daughter and family, Mr, and Mrs. Budd Carr and son Gary, Medford. Coming from Areata for the event were Mr. and Mrs Robert Lumpkin and son Ke vin, granddaughter of Mrs. Hayes. Mrs. Lumpkin, a daughter of Mrs. Reed, made four generations of the Hayes family present. Qeuen Marion Parsons presided over the ses sion. Junior past honored queen of the bethel, Miss Micke No ble, was presented a profi ciency certificate following perfect completion of the test. The bethel decided to award a trophy to a junior or senior girl who has served faithfully and had good attendance at meetings but has not prog ressed through the line of fices. The regular session of March 16 was postponed and will be held March 30 when members will be back from spring vacation. During the session "Happy Birthday" was sung in celebration of the bethel's 26th birthday. It was announced that the next guardian council meet ing will be March 23. Final plans were made for the rum mage sale which will be held Saturday, March 26, In the Fehl building. A meeting March 2 was in observance of friend ship night and a record number of guests attended. Among the guests were queens from five bethels: Miss Susan Rogers, Bethel 56, Shady Cove; Miss Sandra Piper, Bethel 36, Ker by; Miss Lynn Johnson, Beth el 13, Grants Pass; Miss Mar cia Barrell, Bethel 55, Med ford; and Miss Christine Mc Gee, Bethel 22, Ashland. Andrew E. Stevens, past as sociate grand guardian, Mrs. W. K. Suit, grand guide, and L. R. Manning, vice associate grand guardian, all of Med ford, were escorted. Several guardians were introduced. Mrs. Audrey Roberts, ma tron of Reames chapter, Order of Eastern Star, presented the bethel a gift in honor of the 26th birthday. An interesting event of the evening was a style show of hats created by members of the bethels. Two first prizes were awarded; one to Bethel 13 of Grants Pass for a hat "From Cave Daughter to Job's Daughter"- with decorations symbolizing work of Job's Daughters. Bethel 55, Med ford, was awarded a prize for a large white hat symbolizing the Olympic Winter Games at Squaw Valley. Choir practice for girls 15 years and older will be held in the home of Clarence Smith, music director, 826 Grant street, Monday, March 7, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friendship Night Chapter to Hold Central Point - Invitations have been issued by Nevita chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, for the chapter's friend ship night and a reception honoring a grand chapter rep resentative. The events are to be March 22 in the Masonic temple. Mrs. M. W. McGrew, chair-1 man of the "pay of repre sentatives" committee of the grand chapter of Oregon, is a member of Nevita chapter. . 1 The regular meeting of Ne vita chapter will be held Tuesday, March 8, at 8 p.m. in the Masonic emple. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Patterson and their committee will have charge of the social hour in the dining room following the meeting. Mrs. Ray Aired will Soloist Announced Miss Linda Hess, saxophon ist and junior student at Med ford High school, will be solo ist with the Medford Senior Symphony band at an all Medford High School Band festival Thursday, March 10. The concert will feature six bands, two each from Mc Loughlin Junior High and Hedrick Junior High schools, plus the high school concert and senior symphony bands. Doors will open at 7 pjn. for the concert, to be held at Hedrick Junior High school. Miss Hess has consistently won superior ratings at music contests while in junior and senior high school and is con sidered to be one of the finest young saxophone artists Med ford schools have had. About 420 students will take part in the program, and proceeds will help defray spring contest expenses. Master Point Winners Named Thirty-six players com peted for master points in Wednesday's duplicate game at the Riverside Bridge club. High score for north-south players went to' Mrs. A. M. Donohue and Mrs. Paul A. Hatton, first, 128; Mrs. George B. Dean and Mr. Hatton, sec ond, 120; Mrs. B. B. Hughes and Mrs. Mary Trout, third, 115; and Mrs. Berg Marten, Roy Pruitt, Mrs. Jack Mitchell and Mrs. Paul McDuffee, tied for fourth, V)Vi. East-west high scores were won by Mrs. John Dougherty and Mrs. Sam Van Dyke, first, 135Ji; Mrs. R. T. Jones and Mrs. J. S. Lodge Planning District Session District executive officers of the Royal Neighbors of America met recently in Ash land to make plans for the annual district session of the lodge." The meeting will be held April 29 and Mrs. Vir ginia E. Duvall, Vancouver, Wash., state supervisor of the lodge, will make an official visit at that time. Mistletoe camp, RNA, will meet March 17 and members will practice for the conven tion. Mistletoe club will meet at the Girls Community club Wednesday, March 9, at 10 a.m. Members will work on material for their bazaar and a covered-dish luncheon will be served at 12:30 o'clock. On the committee, which provides meat dishes, are Mrs. David Fraysher, Mrs. George Culy, Mrs. Alvin Lehman and Mrs. Clayton Walker. A business meeting will follow. Auxiliary Plans Monday Dance The Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department of Oregon, will sponsor a dance at the Camp White Domiciliary Monday, March 7, 8 pan. in the Camp White theater.
