Princess Loses Slipper; Escort Blushes, Obliges London -flJPO-Princess Mar garet lost her slipper Wednes day night at a ball, but unlike Prince Charming, her escort was almost too embarrassed to return it. There was the pretty prin cess in a fetching strapless gown and new "Charleston" style hairdo fox trotting in the elegant Savoy hotel with bachelor Alan Godsal, high sheriff of Berkshire. He had already announced to the party that he was not a very good dancer. The prin cess is. Suddenly the awful thing that every man on a dance floor dreads happened. Off slipped his royal partner's open-toe slipper. The tnusic did not stop. ' But every one else at the Dockland Settlement ball did. Godsal turned white, then red. His pretty partner smiled ntfscjfcievously. Then came the problem of gracefully trying to locate the slipper beneath the royal skirt with decorum. Finally Godsal found it. And he slipped it on the royal foot. The slipper fit. But there the etory ended. The board approved signing of the exploration lease by Oregon Oil and Gas company of Albany for 1,380 acres west of "Philomath. The rate was 25 cents per acre. Red Agent Tells Of Later Vilification Los Angeles (LTD A Los Angeles woman told House un-American Activities sub committee probers Wednesday her home was stoned and she was "vilified on all sides" when it was publicly revealed she joined the Communist party as an FBI undercover agent. Mrs. Marian Miller, 38, the second Los Angeles housewife in two days to tell the sub committee of her undercover work against Communism, was applauded by the audi ence at the hearing. The sub committee holds its final hear ing of the current series to day. Mrs. Miller said she served in her dual role of Communist and FBI undercover agent for five years. She told the prob ers she . testified at subver sion hearings in Washington shortly after leaving the party in 1955, and then returned home to find: Horn Stoned "I had become the object of controversy, my home was stoned, the lives of my hus band, myself and children were threatened," she said. Mrs. Miller told members of the subcommittee headed by Rep. Morgan M. Moulder (D-Mo.) that she was barred from membership in a wom an's club after her testimony. She said she believed the campaign to keep her from the club was headed by a member whose Communist Champion Steer Is Sold at $1.81 Portland - (UPD - The grand champion Hereford steer at the Pacific International Live stock exposition sold at $1.81 per pound Wednesday. The steer was purchased by Ceba's Market from Edward Gath of Salem for $1,950. . The current market price for steers is 28 cent. Highest price paid in recent years was $2.05 by a local restau rant in 1956. The grand champion market lamb, a southdown entered by Washington State university, sold for $1.25 a pound to Del Monte Meat company. activities were unknown to other club members. Reception Will Recognize UN Day A public reception in rec ognition of United Nations day will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Girls Commu nity club. Invitations have been ex tended to officials of all coun ty communities. Special guests will include members of the Jackson County Bar as sociation and their wives, foreign students from South ern Oregon college, exchange students at Medford High school, and refugee families sponsored by local churches and individuals. A discussion of "world peace through law," the peace program of the American Bar association, will be presented by Sam Harbison, president of the local bar association, and Frank VanDyke and Rob ert Duncan. Moore Hamilton, retiring president of the Medford chapter of United Nations as sociation, and Mrs. H. P. Bos worth, newly-elected presi dent, will asist Mayor John Snider in greeting guests. The Medford chapter, which has planned the reception, was formed five years ago and is one of. 11 in Oregon. Mem bers include residents of Med ford, Ashland, Jacksonville, Gold Hill and Grants Pass. The public is invited to the reception and refreshments will follow the program. Cook, Wednesday filed a suit in federal court here seeking to set aside a- bond issue of $198,700 approved by voters of the River Road Park and Recreation district of Lane county. Mrs. Cook contends in the suit that the Feb. 28 election was illegal. The Eugene area district, its directors and the district superintendent are the defendants.
