    Princess Loses
Slipper; Escort
Blushes, Obliges
London -flJPO-Princess Mar
garet lost her slipper Wednes
day night at a ball, but unlike
Prince Charming, her escort
was almost too embarrassed
to return it.
There was the pretty prin
cess in a fetching strapless
gown and new "Charleston"
style hairdo fox trotting in
the elegant Savoy hotel with
bachelor Alan Godsal, high
sheriff of Berkshire.
He had already announced
to the party that he was not
a very good dancer. The prin
cess is.
Suddenly the awful thing
that every man on a dance
floor dreads happened. Off
slipped his royal partner's
open-toe slipper.
The tnusic did not stop.
' But every one else at the
Dockland Settlement ball did.
Godsal turned white, then
red.
His pretty partner smiled
ntfscjfcievously.
Then came the problem of
gracefully trying to locate the
slipper beneath the royal
skirt with decorum. Finally
Godsal found it. And he
slipped it on the royal foot.
The slipper fit. But there
the etory ended.

Of Later Vilification
Los Angeles (LTD A Los
Angeles woman told House

her home was stoned and she
was "vilified on all sides"
when it was publicly revealed
she joined the Communist

Mrs. Marian Miller, 38, the
second Los Angeles housewife
in two days to tell the sub
committee of her undercover
work against Communism,
was applauded by the audi
ence at the hearing. The sub
committee holds its final hear
ing of the current series to
day. Mrs. Miller said she served
in her dual role of Communist

five years. She told the prob
ers she . testified at subver

shortly after leaving the party
in 1955, and then returned
home to find:
Horn Stoned
"I had become the object of
controversy, my home was
stoned, the lives of my hus
band, myself and children
were threatened," she said.
Mrs. Miller told members
of the subcommittee headed
by Rep. Morgan M. Moulder
(D-Mo.) that she was barred
from membership in a wom
an's club after her testimony.
She said she believed the
campaign to keep her from
the club was headed by a
