The answer is simple: It costs too much to get 'em from where they are in the storage warehouses, in piles of spuds, etc. - to WHERE THEY ARE NEEDED. It's ac tually cheaper to buy 'em in the local supermarkets. Hence this plan to give $2Vi billion of 'em away overseas over a ten-year period. One can't help wondering who will pay the freight. HERE'S a really simple solu tion: : . ;. Quit subsidizing surpluses to be piled up in the ware houses to hang like a ' dark thundercloud over the mar kets of the future. The heck of it is that the politicians aren't interested in simple solutions. They want to spend money to get votes. Portland Girl, 7, Killed by Auto Portland -(UPD- Candice May Slowey, 7-year-old grade school student was killed when struck by a car as she left Arleta school here Wednes- day afternoon.
