The answer is simple:
It costs too much to get 'em
from where they are in the
storage warehouses, in piles
of spuds, etc. - to WHERE
THEY ARE NEEDED. It's ac
tually cheaper to buy 'em in
the local supermarkets.
Hence this plan to give $2Vi
billion of 'em away overseas
over a ten-year period. One
can't help wondering who
will pay the freight.
HERE'S a really simple solu
tion: : . ;.
Quit subsidizing surpluses
to be piled up in the ware
houses to hang like a ' dark
thundercloud over the mar
kets of the future.
The heck of it is that the
politicians aren't interested in
simple solutions. They want to
spend money to get votes.

Slowey, 7-year-old grade school
student was killed when
struck by a car as she left
Arleta school here Wednes-
day afternoon.
Candice, the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. James Slowey,
was dead on arrival at Port'
land Sanitarium.
- Driver of the car was Ed
ward R. WakefieldT 67, Port
land. Wakefield told officers
he was driving about 10 miles
per hour and was unaware he
had struck the girl.
The child was., dragged
about 46 feet by the vehicle,
which had to be hand lifted
before ambulance attendants
could free her.

Moore was given a 10-day
suspended jail sentence on
Wednesday for disturbing the
peace by abusing a bartender
who said he was too, busy to
serve her. It all started when
she asked for a drink of
water.
