Mining Council Plans Exhibit The Northwestern Mining Council, Inc., Medford, is de veloping plans for an exhibit at the Oregon Centennial ex position in Portland, Frank Ross, mining engineer and chairman in charge of plans, has announced. With an exhibit of gold nug gets, gold ore and other min eral ores found in this are, the Council plans to have a listing of properties, prospects and claims, the owners of which desire and solicit fin ancial and technical assist ance in exploration, develop ment or operation, he said. The Mining Council said claim owners must supply the name, location and a short des cription of the property the owners wish to list. The des cription should cover minerals found or expected to be found, the history of the mine and the extent cf present develop ment, Ross said. Ross said assistance also is required in forming the ex hibit and for financing it. The Council plans a collec tion of mined gold in nuggets, dust or "picture rock" quartz, and pointed out that measures will be taken to protect the display and all valuable mate rial will be insured. At the close on Thursday, the market showed a rise for the three sessions of S5.6 bil lion. It lost about one-fifth of that in the Friday session. General Telephone and Syl vania Electric turned active Engineer Blamed For New Jersey Train Disaster Newark, N.J.-OJPD-The state public utility commission has held engineer Lloyd Wilburn responsible for the Sept. 15 Jersey Central railroad dis aster at Bayonne and ordered sweeping improvements in the line's safety system. PUC Commissiond Ralph Fusco said Friday the added safety measures were to be effective immediately. These included giving trains within four minutes of the Newark bay drawbrdge the right-of-way over boat traffic, con' trary to long-established fed eral policy on navigable wa ters. In the nine-psige report, the commission blamed the 63-year-old Wilburn, of Red Bank, N.J., for the disaster which claimed 48 lives when a five-car commuter train plunged through on 'open drawbridge into Newark Bay. The report noted that the train was speeding on the bridge, Wilburn failed to heed a stop signal 577 feet from the open draw and neither he nor fireman Peter Andrew were physically disabled be fore the wreck. . Charged With Lying New York - (DPD - Alfred Freedman, producer of the television quiz show "Twenty One," was free on $1,500 bail yesterday on charges of lying about questions concerning the program which went off the air last month. Freedman, 36, of New Ro chelle, N.Y., was indicted Fri day for perjury in denying he had supplied questions and answers to contestants. No date was set for his trail.
