The restaurant has a large dining area with booths and tables, a lunch counter and banquet room. The front of the building as well as the interior has been remodeled to conform to modern Chinese design. Food, prepared by five Oriental cooks, includes exotic Chinese dishes in addition to the familiar chop suey and chow mein, accord ing to owner-manager Frank Lime. I STUDIES SNO'-CATS-John Russell of Sid ney, Australia, right, who has made three trips into the antarctic on polar expeditions, is currently in Medford studying mainten ance procedure of Tucker over-snow ve hicles, which will be the main means of transportation in a forthcoming expedition by an Australian party. Pointing out fea tures of a Sno-Cat track is Emmett Tucker Jr., a partner in the Medford firm. Russell's job on the -expedition will be to see that equipment and machinery is in top working order. The polar-party, operating out . of ?. Point McMurdo, '. . will ..' take : ' seismograph soundings of the ice-covered Victoria plateau to: tie in with other surveys in formulating an accurate ground surface chart. The ex cellent showing made by Tucker machines in the recent antarctic continent crossing has " established their value in polar exploration. Russell, who has a wife and three children in Sidney," expects to be in Medford another week. Hatfield Staff Taking Shape: Three Appointed Salem-fUPB-Gov. elect Mark Hatfield's staff was taking shape rapidly yesterday with the appointment of two secre taries following that of his legal counsel. Loren D. Hicks, 39, assist ant attorney general for the Department of ' State, was named Hatfield's legal advis or. Later Hatfield named Leo lyn Barnett and Mrs. J. L. Siegmund to his immediate staff Nearly 30 Years Miss Barnett began her service with the late Earl Snell and has nearly 30 years of service between the secre tary of state's office and the governor's suite. Mrs. Siegmund served two sessions as Hatfield's legisla tive secretary in the House and Senate. Hatfield said he had not yet determined what assignment he would give Assistant Sec retary of State Warne Nunn. Nunn served as assistant public utility commissioner and director of 'motor vehicles in the administratons of Doug las McKay, Paul Patterson and Elmo Smith. New Requirements Listed for Cadets New requirements ior avi ation cadet training have been announced by the Air Force, according to MSgt. Carson W. Campbell, local Air Force recruiter. Until recently, two years college were mandatory, but because of the heavy demand for flying officers, the require ment has been eased to allow high school graduates to enter the flying program. The complete requirements, in addition to being an above average, high schol graduate, are that applicants must be between 18 and 26V2, single and a citizen. Salem - (UPD - Public Utility , Commissioner Howard Mor gan submitted his resignation! to Gov. Robert D. Holmes Fri day to be effective at the Governor's pleasure. At the same time, Morgan blasted Gov.-elect Mark Hat field for what he called "the imperfectly concealed opera tions of lobbyists for the pri vate utilities and transconti nental railroads in both your primary and general election campaigns." Morgan charged that the lobbyists effect on Hatfield's campaign had made it "ex tremely difficult for any self respecting man to administer the laws relating to this office during your (Hatfield's) ad ministration." Planned to Resign In his letter to Governor Holmes Morgan said he had planned to resign at the close of the 1959 legislative session, and that Hatfield's election altered his plans only slightly. ."My only regret in submit ting my resignation now is that it will not be possible for me to present to the Legisla ture a list of the proposed re forms and improvements in the utility and railroad codes," Morgan told Holmes. Morgan said it had been a "great personal honor to serve as PUC commissioner, adding that he had administered the laws "exactly as they were written." He said this was a tribute to Holmes' political independ ence, courage and honesty. "I can only wish that these facts were as well understood by the general public as by the executives and lobbyists of the private utilities," Mor gan said. In his letter to Hatfield, Morgan said: "It is possible that Gov. Holmes may not accept this Forest Service Man Moved to Alaska , Albert O. Hansen, office manager in the Medford office of the Rogue River National forest, has been transferred to the position of administra tive assistant on the Chugach National forest, Anchorage, Alaska, effective Nov. 30, ac cording to C. E. Brown, forest supervisor. From June 1942 to July 1957 Hansen was supply offi cer at Medford, and was then promoted to office manager here: Hansen is a native, of Kan sas where he attended elemen tary school. He started work ing for the forest service on the Willamette National for est at Oakridge, in 1933 as a CCC foreman. Attacking Influence resignation prior to the end end of his term of office. Three Others Thursday, Agricultural Di rector Robert Steward and Motor Vehicle Director James Johnson informed Hatfield they intended to resign. State Finance Director John Richardson also said he would send Hatfield a "courtesy" resignation to be effective on Jan. 12 when Hatfield is in augurated. Before receiving the letters, Hatfield had assured career state employes that they need have no fear of a general house-cleaning when he be came governor. Knowland in the race for the California gover norship this week. Knowland's loss, the Com munist New China News Ag ency said, "signified the Am erican people's strong opposi tion to the U.S. ruler's hostile policy toward the Chinese people."
