of the dollar. The theory is
that stocks will rise at least
as fast as the dollar declines
so that investments there will
keep the stock owner at least
even with the inflation.
This inflation urge was seen
as more than offsetting a pos
sible Democratic drive for
bigger government, repressive
business legislation and no
hope of tax reductions for
any but the low income
brackets.
Market Soars
Whether the election was
interpreted rightly or wrong

on the market. Industrials
soared to near the 560 level
in the intra-day figure Thurs
day, a record high at the close
of 554.85 that day. The rail

Routine wee k-end profit
taking knocked the averages
down somewhat from their
highs, but the selling on Fri
day was held to a minimum
with volume falling off when
prices declined. In that ses
sion a long list of special is
sues registered gains of 3 or
4 points, indicating a drive
toward selective purchasing.
The industrial average rose
nearly 2 points on Monday,
5V points on Wednesday, and
more than 4 points on Thurs
day. Rails and utilities join
ing the rise seemed odd if the
inflation urge is the reason for
buying since these groups or

Mining Council
Plans Exhibit
The Northwestern Mining
Council, Inc., Medford, is de
veloping plans for an exhibit
at the Oregon Centennial ex
position in Portland, Frank
Ross, mining engineer and
chairman in charge of plans,
has announced.
With an exhibit of gold nug
gets, gold ore and other min
eral ores found in this are,
the Council plans to have a
listing of properties, prospects
and claims, the owners of
which desire and solicit fin
ancial and technical assist
ance in exploration, develop
ment or operation, he said.
The Mining Council said
claim owners must supply the
name, location and a short des
cription of the property the
owners wish to list. The des
cription should cover minerals
found or expected to be found,
the history of the mine and
the extent cf present develop
ment, Ross said.
Ross said assistance also is
required in forming the ex
hibit and for financing it.
The Council plans a collec
tion of mined gold in nuggets,
dust or "picture rock" quartz,
and pointed out that measures
will be taken to protect the
display and all valuable mate
rial will be insured. Anyone
having gold who like to have
it displayed may contact the
Council, Ross said.
Three of the great violin
makers Amati, Guarneri and
Stradivari all came from
news since their rates are
fixed.
Along with the inflation
talk the market had in its
favor a long list of favorable
third quarter reports, some
dividend increases, and sev
eral stock splits. In addition,
the business statistics record
ed further gains with automo
bile production getting into
swing. Most of the leading in
dustries were showing gains
over last year for the first
time since the recession be
gan more than a year ago.
At the close on Thursday,
the market showed a rise for
the three sessions of S5.6 bil
lion. It lost about one-fifth of
that in the Friday session.
