Mrs. Wayne Morse Honored At Tea Thursday Afternoon Ashland About 125 guests attended a tea given Thursday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. Drew Lamb, 634 Iowa street, in honor of Mrs. Wayne Morse. Senator Morse and the couple's daughter, Judith, were present also during the afternoon. The event was sponsored by the Democratic Women of Jack- ion County The event was sponsored by the Democratic Women of Jack ion county. An arrangement of roses cen tered the tea table, and other bouquets were of dahlias and various fall blossoms. Mrs Morse wore a navy blue suit for the tea, and was presented a corsage of pink carnations. Pouring during the afternoon were Mrs. John C. Mann, Mrs. Lewis Ulrich, Mrs. Robert 3. UN To Be Topic Of Medford Club Miss Mary Davenport, repre senting Medford chapter, Ore gon United Nations association, will be guest speaker at the October meeting of Medford .Business and Professional Wo men's club. It is set for Thurs day, October 18 at Roxy Anne Grange hall. Spring street and Valley View drive. Mrs. Glenna H. Corson, in ternational relations chairman for the group, is in charge of the program. Her committee in cludes Miss Margaret McGee, Mrs. Anita Sample. Miss Hazel Swayne, and Mrs. Anna Bcngt son. Miss Davenport will explain the functions of the United Na tions chapters which have been organized in communities throughout the country, as well as the work of the United Na tions committee and councils. The National Federation of BPW maintains an observer at the United Nations as a member of the national staff. This observ er. Mrs. Alba Thomson, wrote the article "U.N. Dav" which appears in the October issue of the magazine "Independent Wo man". The meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. with a dessert arranged by the legislative committee in charge of the social hour. Mrs. Jeanette Marshal, chairman, will be assisted by her committee, Mrs. Mabel Hundley, Mrs. Anne Palmer, Miss Laura York, and Mrs. Genevieve Collins. Darlene Bonner, Robert Hansen To Wed Next Year Mr. and Mrs. Clarence E. Bon ner, 319 North Bartlett avenue announce the engagement of their daughter,- Darlene, to Rob ert Hansen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hansen, Griffin Creek road. Miss Bonner and Mr. Hansen are graduates of Medford High school and students at Northwest Nazarene college in Nampa, Idaho. The wedding date has been set for June of next year. Miss Darlene Bonner New Club Organized A second Toastmasters' club for Medford was organized last Monday at a 6:30 a.m. breakfast meeting at the Jackson hotel. L. S. Horton, engineer for the Cali fornia Oregon Power company, was elected temporary chairman and the Rev. George Trobough, associate minister of First Meth odist church, was elected tem porary secretary. These offices are temporary until the club ob tains its charter in four' months. At this first meeting of the club, Doug Roach spoke on the purposes of Toastmasters, and Galen Knox outlined the educa tional program which is in the form of 12 speeches from a bas ic training manual. W. W. Wil son talked about the "Happen ings at Home on Lynn wood ave nue." Don Hansen informed the club about "National Hire the Handicapped Week." The club will meet Monday, October 15 at 6:30 a.m. for breakfast at the Jackson hotel to hear Jack Price, Don Han sen, and Arnold Opgrand speak. The Monday evening Toastmas ters will be in charge of the meeting with Ron Cordon as toastmaster. Al Bradford as top ic master, and Doug Roach as critic. Anyone interested in speaking in public is invited to attend the club meetings. Rushees Guests -At Model Session; Makeup is Topic A model meeting for rushees of Beta Upsilon chapter Beta Sigma Phi. was held at the home of Mrs. Wayne Harris, 1516 South Ivy street, October 9. This was an open meeting to give rushees a complete picture of Beta Sigma Phi locally and in ternationally. Guests present were Mrs. Gordon Stephen, Mrs. Lawrence E. McConnell, Mrs. Dick Knoll, Mrs. Rae Bostwick. Mrs. Gene McCallister. Mrs. Marvin Lemi eux, Mrs. Don Adams and Mrs. Lawrence S. Horten. Mrs. R. L. Palmer, city council representative, reported that all four chapters in Medford will participate in the Valentine ball to be held in February. A short talk on the aims, pur poses and scope of Beta Sigma Phi was given by Mrs. Arthur Brooks; a resume of the history of the sorority was given by Mrs. R. L. Palmer. The cultural program was pre sented by Mrs. John Selby. With "Painting the Person," as her topic, she described the right way to use makeup and colors to choose for different occasions. She explained that the skin changes in color tone with the years and said women should strive for a natural look for day time wear, but evenings can use brighter lipstick, more " eye make-up, and a darker founda tion. "By learning to use the right make up in the right way you can make the most of your good points, the speaker said. "Your face is your passport to tlje world, the outer symbol of your inner self., she added. After the cultural program the guests and members introduced themselves and told some little interesting fact about themselv es. Co-hostess for the evening was Mrs. R. L. Palmer. . The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. John Selby, 140 Union street, Ashland, at 8 p.m. October 16. Beta Upsilon chapter will celebrate its first anniversary October 26 with a party. Chapter to Honor Masons at Session Adarel chapter. Order of the Eastern Star, will observe the annual Masonic night at the stated meeting Thursday, Octo ber 18, at 8 p.m., at the Masonic hall in Jacksonville. Mrs. Orval Shores, worthy matron, will preside. dinner will precede the session honoring Masons.
