Lady Elks Plan Party for Guests Medford Lady Elks will en tertain Ashland Lady Elks Tuesday, October 16, at 12:30 p.m. for luncheon and cards. Members of the Medforrl group are asked to bring salad. Last Tuesday the local group waa entertained by the Grants Pass club by a luncheon and card party. Card Party Getogether club will hold a public card party, Wednesday, October 17, at 1 p.m. at the Moose Hall, 11 Newtown street. Ceremony At Parsonage Weds Pair Central Point Miss Nancy Lee Higinbotham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. I. Higinbotham, Route 2, Box 68, Central Point, became the bride of Leroy Ash er, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Asher, Route 2, Box 163, Cen tral Point, in a ceremony Friday, September 28. It was held at 8 o'clock in the evening, at Cen tral Point Church of Christ par sonage. The Rev. Jean Shelley solemnized the single ring cere mony, attended by ciose friends and relatives. The bride wore a pale blue suit fashioned with box jacket, and white accessories. She wore a corsage of pink sweetheart ros es and carried a lace handker chief made from her grandmoth er's wedding dress. Miss Loretta McGee was maid of honor. She wore a knit suit in rose color with white rose cor sage. Her accessories were white. Morris Garrison served as best man. The parsonage was decorated with lavender dahlias and white Ester Reed daisies. The newly wed couple are now at home at 2631 Merriman road, Medford. The former Miss Higinbotham has lived in the valley her en tire life and attended public schools in Central Point. Prior to her marriage she was employed by Montgomery Ward. Mr. Asher also attended Central Point schools and is employed by the Meat Center in Medford. This will be the monthly luncheon and will be held at 12 noon at the Jackson hotel. The discussion and explana tion of the seven measures will be presented by the state legis lators from Jackson county. Senator Philip B. Lowry will explain the "Cigarette Tax" and the "Tax Emergency Clause." Representative E. H. Mann will discuss "Salaries of Certain State Officers" and "Qualifica tions for County Coroner and Surveyor." Representative E. A. Littrell will review "Prohibiting Certain Fishing in Coastal Streams." "Salaries for State Legislators," and "Authorizing State Acceptance of Certain Gifts." Manville M. Home Rites Wed Miss Rosecrans, Berry L. Griffis Gold Hill Miss Janyce Rose crans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Rosecrans of Goid Hill, and Berry L. Griffis. Gaines ville, Fla., were married Wed nesday, October 5 at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. The wedding ceremony was held at the home of the bride's aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. George Inlow on the old Tolman place. Justice Dale Collins officiated. The bride wore a white linen suit with white accessories and a white and blue corsage. Mrs. Rosecrans wore for her daughter's wedding a blue and white print nylon dress. Following the ceremony a re ception was held. The bride is a graduate of Crater High school. Central Point. The bridegroom was re cently discharged from the U.S Navy. The newlywed couple are making their home on Galls Creek. -i Dance Thursday Planned by Club Lively Rogues Dance club members have set Thursday, Oc tober 18, as the opening date of the fall and winter season for the club. The club will gather as the Ashland Elks' club at 7:30 o'clock for dinner, and the Bob Anderson trio will play for dancing until 11 o clock. Attire will be dark suits for men and formal gowns for women. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Agard and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Mat thews are to be hosts for the evening. Reservations are to be made no later than Monday, Oc tober 15, by calling Mrs. Emer son Anderson, 2-2134, or Mrs. Clyde Ramsey. 2-8741. The Andersons head the club for this season, and Mr. and Mrs. Austin King are vice-presidents. F. Carpenter, Santa Ana, Calif. Mrs. Carpenter and her hus band, long-time Medford resi dents, left Thursday for Seattle to visit relatives after having been house guests of Mr. and Mrs. Phipps at their home on Crater Lake highway. Pouring for the tea were Mrs. W. W. Howard and Mrs. J. C. Collins. Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter lived in the Perrydale district near Medford before moving to Cali fornia, and were active in First Presbyterian church. Mrs. Car penter will be remembered by many as the former Vera Van Scoyoc. Luncheon Planned By Social Club Reames Social club will meet at 12 noon Wednesday, October 17 for a pay luncheon at the Medford Masonic Social hall. The afternoon will be spent working on projects for a bazaar and in playing cards. Mrs. Vern Turpin is chairman for the luncheon. Mr. and Mrs. William Patrick Peterson, married September 29 in Medford Church of Christ, are now living at Palo Alto. Calif., where the bridegroom ii with the Ames Research labora tories. The bride is the former Mary Joanne Martin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Martin. 1002 Maple Park drive, and the bride groom is a son of Carl H. Peterson, assigned to duty with the De partment of State in Kelfavick, Iceland, and the late Mrs. Peter son. (Srainerd photo) Peterson-Martin Ceremony Held at Church of Christ An a cappella choir sang and hummed the wedding music for the candlelight ceremony at Medford Church of Christ, Saturday, September 29, when Miss Mary Joanne Martin became the bride of William Patrick Peterson. The Rev. H. O. Martin officiated at the double ring ceremony held at 7:30 o'clock in the evening. Miss Martin is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Martin, 1002 Maple Park drive, Med ford. Mr. Peterson is the son of Carl H. Peterson, of Kelfavick, Iceland, and the late Mrs. Pet erson. Three candlelighters, two dressed in blue organdy with the third in white, lighted the candles from a center lighted candelabrum while the choir sang. . Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a floor length gown fashioned with white satin bodice and white embroidered nylon tulle over net and taffeta. The train was of white nylon tulle. Her veil was held by a lace trimmed sweetheart crown and she car ried a cascade bouquet of shattered carnations and steph anotis. Mrs. E. H. Claasen, aunt of the bride, was matron of honor. She wore a ballerina length dress of pink crystalline styled with scoop neckline and three quarter length sleeves. Her colonial bouquet was of pink roses and shattered carnations. Other attendants were Miss June Pike and Mrs. Shirley Garner, cousin of the bride. They wore dresses fashioned as Mrs. Claasen's in blue color and carried identical bouquets. Eight year old Meredith Mar tin was flower girl. Candlelight ers were Miss Lynda Garner, Miss Dorcas Johnson, and Miss Dicie Farmer, Portland. Best man was John Thielman, Student Selected For Membership In Honor Society Corvallis Miss Shirley C. M. Lyman of Gold Hill has been selected for membership in Kappa Delta Pi, national educa tion honor society, at Oregon State college for 1956-57. Membership in the group is based on scholarship, recom mendation, and a required num ber of hours in the school of edu cation, and is open to upperclass nd graduate stuqents. Miss Lyman, a senior at OSC in home economics education, is one of 28 Oregon State students to be selected to join the group. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Lyman, route 2, box 375, Gold Hill. Roxy Ann HEC Roxy Ann Extension club will hold a meeting Wednesday. October 17, at 8 p.m. at the Grange hall. Following the ceremony a re ception was given at the church. Mrs. Gilbert Munden cut the cake and was assisted by Mrs. Lloyd Schmetzer, aunt of the bride, who helped serve. Mrs. Mary Claasen, grandmother of the bride, poured the coffee while Miss Barbara Maxon and Mrs. M. O. Gwinn presided at the punch bowls. Mrs. John Garner was in charge of the guest book and was also at the gift table. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Martin wore a champagne lace sheath dress with matching feather hat and brown acces sories. The bride wore a beige lace dress with matching tulle duster for her traveling attire. Her ac cessories were brown. After a wedding trip to Lake Tahoe the couple are making their home at 3033 Emerson street, Palo Alto, Calif. Out of town guests included Mrs. Charles Isberg, sister of the bridegroom. Navy Lieutenant Charles Peterson, brother of the bridegroom, both of San Fran cisco, and Mr. Peterson, father of the bridegroom, who is with the State department in Iceland. The bride Is a graduate of Medford High school and was employed by the Valley Shade company as a bookkeeper. Mr. Peterson is a graduate of high school in Linz, Austria, and Ore gon State college. He is an aero nautical engineer with Ames Aeronautical Research labora tories at Moffett Field, Calif. Stanford Students To Be Married In Holiday Rites Judge and Mrs. William M. McAllister announce the engage ment of their daughter, Kathryn Jean, to Ray N. Miller. Mr. Mil ler is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond N. Miller of Lancaster, Pa. The wedding ceremony will take place in Medford during the Christmas h -lidays. Miss McAllister and her fiance are both seniors at Stanford uni versity and will continue their studies after their marriage. Miss McAllister is majoring in psy chology. Mr. Miller is a pre-med-ical student and a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. The McAllisters have made their home in Medford for many years and the bride-elect is an honor graduate of Medford high school. -Since Judge McAllister appointment to the Oregon su preme court, he and Mrs. McAl lister have divided their time between their Medford home, 2615 Hillcrest road, and Salem, and are' in Medford this week end. They have taken a home in Salem at 695 Orchard heights. The no-host event is set for 12:30 o'clock in the Elk's club, Ash land. Guest speaker will be Dr. Bill Sampson, Southern Oregon college. His topic will be the legislative measures to be on the November general election ballot. A program and business meeting will follow. Miss Joan Cook Becomes Bride Of Lonzo Lown Miss Joan Cook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Cook, 37 Winema Way, became the bride of Lonzo Leamond Lown in a ceremony held Saturday, Sep tember 22. The Rev. Yyman D. Stiles of the Assembly of God church read the service at 9 o'clock in the evening at his home, 137 Tripp street. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Margucritf Dunkce. 318 Ashland avenue and the late Mr. Lown. Attendants for the couple were the sister and brother-in-law of the bridegroom, Mr. and Mrs. John Childers. The bride wore a pink linen suit with blue accessories. Mrs. Childers chose a dress of char coal gray with red accessories. Following the ceremony a re ception was held for close friends and relatives of the couple. The bride attended Jackson ville High school. The bride groom attended Rogue River Academy and is employed by the Lewis Manufacturing company.
