(Landis-Shangle photo) Birthday Observed At Party Mrs. Clara Rhoades was hon ored at a party Saturday, Octo ber 6, which celebrated her 80th birthday. The event was held at 940 Whitman street, where Mrs. Rhoades makes her home with her daughter, Mrs. Eloise Win klebleck. Assisting with the pouring and serving of the birthday cakes were Mrs. Glen V. Allen, Mrs. Arnold Bohnert, Mrs. James Hopkins, Mrs. M. E. Olson and Mrs. Charles G. Smith. Mrs. Mabe! Sims recorded the guests. Mrs. Rhoades was born in Rochester, N.Y., in 1876 and moved to Kansas with her fam ily when she was a small child. She lived in Kansas until August of 1941 when she came to Med ford to be near her children. Mrs. Rhoades is a member of Adult Bible class of First Pres byterian church and of Mercy circle of the church. She is also a member of Grandmothers' club. Out of town guests attending the party were her daughter, Mrs. Rowena Wagner and sons Gale, Ronald and Daniel of Portland, her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Rhoades and daughter, Georgia Mae, of Salem. Ore. and her grandson, Carl Winklebleck, and Mrs. Winklebleck of Harrisburg, Ore. McLoughlin PTA To Hold Meeting McLoughlin Junior High School Parent-Teacher associa tion will hold a "get acquaint ed" session for parents and tea chers at the first meeting of the year Thursday, October 18, at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the boys' gymnasium. Membership and magazine sales plans will be discussed A report will also be made on results of membership letters distributed to students Tuesday October 9. Refreshments wil' be served by the ninth grade moth ers. Mrs. Lloyd N. Parsons, unit president, has appointed the fol lowing committee chairmen: Hospitality, Mrs. William Rus sell; membership, Mrs. DeVere Taylor; magazines, Mrs. W. R. Uhrine; publicity, Mrs. C. S. Collins room representative, Mrs. Frank Hardin; seventh grade room mo ther, Mrs. Lloyd Johnson; eighth grade room mother, Mrs. J. M Connolly; and ninth grade room mother, Mrs. Stuart Forbes. Mrs. Howard Bush To Talk for Club Butte Falls Mrs. Howard Bush, Medford, will speak at a meeting of Butte Falls Garden club to be held Tuesday, October 16, at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. N. B. Stoddard. Mrs. Bush will talk on "Birds." The Siski you district director, Mrs. Ira Fitzgerald, will also be present for the meeting. Roll call will be answered by naming a favorite autumn flow er. All interested persons are in vited to attend. Mrs. Roger Note Presents Program Mrs. Roger Note gave a pro gram on "Planning the Kitchen" at the last meeting of Xi Mu chapter. Beta Sigma Phi. It was held at the home of Mrs. Verl G. Walker last Wednesday eve ning, with Mrs. William E. Pren tiss assisting the hostess. Women from both Medford and nearby towns attended the annual reporter's school conducted by the women's department of The Mail Tribune Tuesday afternoon at the YMCA, A tea followed an hour of instruction in preparation of copy for the paper. Mrs. Eric Allen Jr., wife of the news paper's managing editor, was one of two who poured, the second being Miss Peg Hutchin son, who recently came to Medford from Denver, Colo. Dinner Meeting Announced for Camp, Auxiliary Colonel Sargent Camp and auxiliary, United Spanish War Veterans, will hold their first fall meeting Sunday afternoon, October 21, at Redman hall. A potluck dinner will be served at 1 p.m. Auxiliary members plan ning to attend the dinner are asked to phone the dinner chair man, Mrs. Josephine Widner, at 2-2225 concerning plans for the dinner. Mrs. James Cech, auxiliary president, will report on her trip to and the sessions of the na tional convocation held in Louis ville, Ky., September 2 to 8. VFW Auxiliary Plans Dance at Camp White The Department of Oregon, Veterans of Foreign Wars aux iliary, will hold a dance in the theatre at Camp White, Mon day, October 15, at 8 p.m. Music will be furnished by the Musicians unions. Local 597, with Chapman's orchestra play ing. Those wishing transportation are to be at the Trailways depot at 7:30 p.m. Plan Homecoming Mistletoe camp, Royal Neigh bors, will hold a homecoming potluck dinner at the Pythian hall Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m. Mrs. Carl Pearson is chairman of the event and Mrs. Irvin Patton, co chairman. All Royal Neighbors are welcome. Ladies' Club Sams Valley Sams Valley Ladies' club will meet Thursday, October 18 at 2 p.m. in the home of Mrs. Cleon Botsford.
