(International) Volunteer Firemen Incorporate Shady Cove-Trail Department Shady Cove-Trail Articles of incorporation have been filled at Salem for the incorporation of the Shady Cove-Trail Fire department. ' The department, in the proc ess of organization for the past three years, is made up of about 25 volunteer men of the area, and equipment includes a 1951 F7 tank-truck which carries 1,500 gallons of water. The truck was purchased about a year ago. Construction Planned Construction on, a fire hall for the truck and headquarters for the firemen is expected . to get under way in about two weeks, or when weather condi tions will permit. Financing for the department is strictly on a voluntary basis from contribu tions and benefit events, Roy Long, one of the officers, said. Athel Dudley, also one of the officers, is the fire chief in charge of the department.- Numerous vicinity events have been sponsored, and the next which' is expected to provide a sizeable revenue for construc tion of the fire hall is a Fire men's ball set for Feb. 25 at the school gymnasium. . Dick Spain and his orchestra will provide the dance music. , cThe present incorporation cov ers only the department itself, but later it is planned to incor porate the entire district. . ,Fires within a five-mile ra dius from the Shady Cove high way bridge over Rogue River come under protection of the department, according to Long. This takes in as far east on the highway as the Rogue-Elk area, south to Reese creek, and in cludes some of River rd., and Tiller-Trail ;rd. properties. The department has been called on many times and has been re sponsible for saving numerous properties. Fires are reported by calling the Camp White telephone op erator. Listed with the operator are the various business men of the area and others who may be reached day or night. A siren on the Mobile Station at Shady Cove sounds the alarm. In addition to Long and Dud ley, the board is made up of Frank Allen, A. C. Silver, G. A. Hubbell, Howard Nutt and Ed Houston.
