Volunteer Firemen Incorporate
Shady Cove-Trail Department
Shady Cove-Trail Articles of
incorporation have been filled
at Salem for the incorporation
of the Shady Cove-Trail Fire
department.
' The department, in the proc
ess of organization for the past
three years, is made up of about
25 volunteer men of the area,
and equipment includes a 1951
F7 tank-truck which carries
1,500 gallons of water. The
truck was purchased about a
year ago.
Construction Planned
Construction on, a fire hall
for the truck and headquarters
for the firemen is expected . to
get under way in about two
weeks, or when weather condi
tions will permit. Financing for
the department is strictly on a
voluntary basis from contribu
tions and benefit events, Roy
Long, one of the officers, said.
Athel Dudley, also one of the
officers, is the fire chief in
charge of the department.-
Numerous vicinity events have
been sponsored, and the next
which' is expected to provide
a sizeable revenue for construc
tion of the fire hall is a Fire
men's ball set for Feb. 25 at the
school gymnasium. . Dick Spain
and his orchestra will provide
the dance music.
, cThe present incorporation cov
ers only the department itself,
but later it is planned to incor
porate the entire district.
. ,Fires within a five-mile ra
dius from the Shady Cove high
way bridge over Rogue River
come under protection of the
department, according to Long.
This takes in as far east on the
highway as the Rogue-Elk area,
south to Reese creek, and in
cludes some of River rd., and
Tiller-Trail ;rd. properties. The
department has been called on
many times and has been re
sponsible for saving numerous
properties.
Fires are reported by calling
the Camp White telephone op
erator. Listed with the operator
are the various business men
of the area and others who may
be reached day or night. A siren
on the Mobile Station at Shady
Cove sounds the alarm.
In addition to Long and Dud
ley, the board is made up of
Frank Allen, A. C. Silver, G.
A. Hubbell, Howard Nutt and
Ed Houston.
UAL Carries Record
Number Passengers
A record number .of travelers
flew in and out of Medford
municipal airport aboard United
Air lines Mainliners during 1954,
according to K. - W. Cook,' sta
tion manager. Total for the 12
months was 36,183 passengers,
a 28 per cent increase over the
previous year.
Cook noted that United cur
rently serves Medford with five
daily first-class flights which
link the city with 79 other
points on its coast-to-coast and
California-Hawaii system.
Machinery Plant, Not
Sawmill, Said Planned
Location at Gold Hill of a
plant to manufacture gang saws
has been proposed to the city
council there by Jeddelok
Brothers Lumber company, Galls
creek. .
io sawmill is proposed, ac
cording to a company represent
ative and Ferd Jones, Gold Hill
city recorder. A Thursday news I
story said incorrectly that a
small sawmill on railroad prop
erty m the town was projected.
The representative of the com
pany said that plans were indef
inite, but that there is no inten
tion to erect a sawmill. Jeddelok
Brothers are now operating a
sawmill on Galls creek.
Jones pointed to objections!
raised about two years ago to
having a sawmill burner in the
town. He said he had received
a number of queries on the Jed
delok proposal and the possibil
ity that sawmill construction
would be authorized. ' 1

of roads in Australia of which
13 per cent are . designated as
state highways or principal
routes. v

roof over their heads.
You nee'd not wait 20 years to own
your home ; simply because you
haven't the cash-in-hand. But before
making a home loan, investigate. Go
to a reliable, home-owned institution,
like JACKSON COUNTY FEDERAL,
where experts in the field of home
