Among the numerous women's service , . groups of the city are two devoted to hos pital work. Providence guild of Sacred . Hert hospital and the new Community Hospital auxiliary, organized last Septem- " ; ber. " Providence gui!d, organized in 1948, , has devoted a major share of its activity to . raising funds for buying equipment and :. carrying on renovation projects at Sacred J 1 Heart hospital. Community, Hospital auxil- " iary members are at present devoting their efforts to work in the hospital with and for .patients. : ,; Guild women are very proud of their , accomplishments, for the group has not been large. Since 1948 the members have furnished four labor rooms, purchased three incubators, one air lock, one croup ette, an infusion stand, an Isolette and have redecorated the nursery, raising many thousands of dollars for these projects for , the obstetrical department of the hospital. , In addition they make layettes, holiday tray -favors, provide food for the needy and serve as hostesses for hospital ; events. Newest project is assistance to the chest x-ray program of Jackson County Public Health association. ' .. Funds have been raised by dues, teas, card parties, rummage sales, cooked "food : and fancywork sales, "gypsy" baskets and . parcel post sales. Mrs. J. W. McDuffie is ,y president. Those enrolled for staff service work on public relations, plan projects, enlist the aid of youth groups, serve on the ways and means committee, or do transportation service.
