It will be a quiet week for me, sir. I am not a pickle enthusiast. Only kind of pickles I care for are the gherkins they serve on the Santa Fe dining cars; How ever, I have nothing against pickles except I don't like to have sliced pickles put on the plate with my ham sandwich. Father's Day Included in My Father's Day medley is that touching ditty titled "That Silvery Haired Daddy of Mine." I want to see the silvery haired daddies get break, but I don't want the young fathers neglected. Espec ially those celebrating their first Father'a Day. Why doesn't omebody write a song about a young father? Fleas Note In Alaska rents are 25 per cent higher than in the United States of America. Vegetables are double the price, milk is 45 cents a quart, eggs $1.25 a dozen. Salaries are from 25 to 50 per cent higher than in the States. The shortage of women continues acute. So states one of those lonely Alaska bachelors. Among lha Married A California woman named among her grounds for divorce that her husband was always showing visitors photographs of his first wife. In the living room of the house he occupied during his second mar riage he placed a large oil paint ing of his first wife. It was sur rounded with electric lights. When Fitzsimmons ushered guests into the living room, he switched on the lights to illumi nate the picture and then said fervently. "You are now looking at the picture of the finest wom an who ever lived!" Asking Queries from clients: Q. I claim George M. Cohan wrote "Forty-Five Minutes from Broad way" but did not appear in it Right? A. Cohan didn't appear in tne original production, which featured Victor Moore. Donald Brian and Fay Templeton. How ever, he did appear in a revival of it later on. Q. Isn't Gllda Gray s real name May Gray? A Early in her career as an enter tainer she was billed as May Gray. Changed the first name of her professional name to Gilda at suggestion of Sophie Tucker, However, her real name is Mary anna Michalski. Fixing ii is not so easy to tnrow a baseball game or to fix a horse race. Take the third game in the Chicago White Sox-Cincinnati Reds World Series of 1910. Eight ol tne players on the White Sox were in on a fix to throw that game. Yet the White Sox won it because Kerr, their pitcher, was not in on the fix. A well known gambler once told me of a race in which every jockey was fixed. However, the horses weren't in on it. So the horse the gamblers wanted to win didn't win. Speedy Trains Some new high speed trains on the Santa Fe run between Los Anselee anrl San niAan make a non-stop trip in two hours and fifteen minutes. The distance is 1Z5 miles. Very speedy. How ever, the so-called auto-dynam-ique trains on the French rail ways would make that trip in an hour and a half or less. The auto-dynamique trains are pro pelled by automobile engines. They are really automobiles on rails. Have often wondered why that form nf tm hasn't been put on some lines in this country.
