rOUR MEDrORD (OREGOKi Ex-Catholic Wi Address Friends Meeting Tonight The Rev. Anthony Callandro, Italian-born ex-prlet of the Ro man Catholic church, now trav eling through the United States under the auspices of the Na tional Association of Evangeli cals, will speak at the Friends church at 7:45 tonight. Mr. Callandro is founder of the Evangelical Biblical insti tute of Italy, a seminary for Italian ex -priests re -training them for Protestant ministry, located at Portici, Naples. Italy. In order to found the seminary In 1949, he resigned from the pastorate of the Church of the Redeemer in West New York, N. J-, and from the faculty of the senior high school in Mont clair, N. J., where he was a pro fessor of Italian for 16 years. He has been active in com munity work, in interracial asso ciations, and for many years he taught Americanization and civ ics to Italian Immigrants, pre paratory to their becoming American citizens. For 12 years director of Christ's mission In New York City, he conducted forum meet ings each Sunday In Times Square district for the discus sion of the vital differences be tween the religious and cultural values of Reformation teachings and those of Roman Catholicism. Distinctions he has received Include the 1034 American Uni versity award from the Italian government, being sent as an ambassador of good will to Italy by the Italian Ministerial asso ciation of Greater New York in 1947 and being elected presi dent of the Association of Ex Priests ol Italy at Its first con gress in Florence, Italy, the same year. The public Is Invited to hear him. Presbyterians Elect Dr. Morse Leader Dr. Herman N. Morse has been elected moderator of the General Assembly of the Presby terian Church In the United States of America, Presbyterian lnrrh officials here reoorted. Dr. Morse has been head of the Board of National Missions since 1948 and has been a worK er in home missions for 20 years. This is the 150th anniversary year of the founding of the board and the fact that Dr. Morse was chairman helped him gain elec tion by overwhelming margin, it was said. The General Assembly opened two weeks of sessions Thursday In New York City. Science-Religion Motion Picture ill Be Shown "Hidden Treasures," a film which delves into the infinitesi mal things of God's creation, will be shown Sunday at 8 p.m. at the Temple Baptist church, the Rev. Perry M. Johnson, pastor, an nounced The movie is the latest reli gious-science film of Moody In stitute of Science and was pro duced by Dr. Irwin Moon, direc tor of the institute. Camera-work for the picture took 18 months and cameramen reported risked life and limb to capture some of the unusual scenes. The fllmers' adventures took them from dungeon caves to exploration aboard a research ship. Wonders of creation are shown with use of telescope and microscope. The film shows minute flow ers, microscopic denizens of the sea, diatoms, iridescent cave crystals, microscopic paramecia and amoebae and some of the 100 million island universes shown by the 200-inch Mt. Palo mar telescope. "Hidden Treasure" Is the sixth in a series produced by the in stitute. The picture will be shown at 8 p.m. today at the Church of the Nazarene. DEATH NOTERROH Guilford, Vt. CUR) A marble tombstone over the grave of Benjamin Carpenter has a lengthy Inscription listing his many services to the state. The inscription concludes: "Left this world and 146 persons of lineal posterity. March 28, 1804, aged 78 years, 10 months and 12 days with a strong mind and full faith of a more glorious state hereafter. Stature about six feet weight 200. Death had no ter ror." Metcalf Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the Bible Auditorium will preach on "Hell." The auditorium choir will sing, "What Shall I Give Thee, Master," and a solo by Mrs. O. E. Baptist Moderator To Speak in Medford Dr. John B. Houser, modera tor of the Conservative Baptist Association of Oregon and pastor of the First Baptist church at Lebanon, will show moving pic tures of work in the mission fields Saturday at 8 p.m. and also Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at the First Baptist church, Medford. Dr. Houser has recently re turned from a trip to the Orient, where he spoke at the mission ary conference of three mission boards. He also visited the mis sion fields and. took pictures of the work. Vernon Marshall, 408 New town street, business agent for the Medford Musicians union, will represent Local 597, Ameri can Federation of Musicians (AFL), at the 55th annual con vention of the musicians in San ta Barbara, Calif., it was an nounced today. The convention will open June 9 and continue through June 12. The delegates will hear ad dresses by their president, James C. Petrlllo, Gov. Earl Warren and others, and will transact union business, including legis lation and election of officers. The convention, which has been held every year since 1898 (with the exception of two war-time years), is the supreme govern ing body of the union. Nearly 1,100 delegates will at tend, representing the 701 locals and the 242,167 professional mu sicians of the United States and Canada.
