LOCAL and Hornbuckle Home Pfc. Mel ville Hombuckle, son of Mrs Hornbuckle, Prospect, is visitine his mother while on furlough from the air force at Los Ange les. He will report back to the base August 24. To Leave City Mr. and Mrs I. S. Philpott, who have made their home on Route 4 for the past year, plan to leave the city August 15 for Rochester, New York, where hey will make their . home in the future. Here On Furlough Follow ing a short delay en route fur lough with his mother, Mrs. T. Slater Johnston, 204 Crater Lake, Pfc- Frederick J. Day, III, will leave the city today for radio school at Madison, Wis. Pfc. Day has been stationed with the air corps at Las Vegas, Nev. Mrs. ' Barnum Visits M r s. Hazel Barnum, of Tulsa, Okla., arrived last week to spend sev eral days visiting at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Hunt, of Crater Lake highway. Mrs. Barnum is a former long-time resident of Mediord. Clothes Stolen Four pair of trousers, one sweater and one coat were reported to local Dolice Thursday as stolen some. time Wednesday night from the City Cleaners building, 224 West Sixth street- According to local police, entry was made through a window at the north end of the ' building. Visiting Daughter Mrs. Goldie Brun of Roseburg plans to leave for her home next week after a two week visit here with her daughter, Mrs. Arthur Spen cer, 916 E. Main street. While in Medford, Mrs. Brunn was ill tor several days but is reported to be recovering now. Mrs. Spencer is the former Shirley Mae Brunn. Gen Cowglll Here Brig. Gen eral Ralph P. Cowgill, com mander of the Oregon State Guard, was in Medford Satyr day en route to Bend on State Guard business. Gen Cowgill, who makes his headquarters in Portland, is a former Medford resident. He was accompanied by Capt. W. V. Hines, who re cently returned from service in the South Pacific for hospitalization- L. C. Mexicans To Camp Fifty Mexican nationals were to ar rive in Grants Pass last night to be employed by the local Oregon-California Revested Lands administration, for work at a blister rust control camp in the Swede Basin area, Floyd Scott, district forester, said yesterday. Friesen On Leave Henry Friesen, SMUc, arrived home Friday to spend a 30-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Friesen, 508 Palm street. Friesen, who has been in the navy four and one-half years, arrived in the U. S. recently after 16 months in the Paciiic where he participated in the Philippine invasion- Durno Coming Major Edwin A. Durno, Medford physician who has been in the European theater for nearly two years, is now in the United States and is expected to arrive in Medford on leave later this week, to visit his wife and three children at the family home, 1913 Hillcrest. The officer telephoned his fam ily Friday from Wilmington, Del-, to say he had arrived in the country, flying from Paris, and that after a couple of days in New York he will travel west to Ft. Lewis before coming home. Showwalter Discharged Cpl. Ben T. Showwalter arrived home July 29 from the separa tion center at Ft; Lewis, Wash., where he received an honorable discharge under the point sys tem. Showwalter left Pisa, Italy, after 34 months overseas with the First Armored Division, and traveled home via Casa Blanca, Dakar, Natal, George town. Puerto Rico, and Miami, Fla. He had 123 points under! the army rated system, and five battle stars. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Showwalter, route 2, box 67, Ashland. Released From Army John G. Barber arrived in the city Thursday from Ft. Lewis, Wash-, after receiving an honorable discharge from the army July 16. As a technician, third grade, Barber served 16 months over seas in Africa and Italy and was with the 91st division. He wears the purple heart for wounds re ceived at Monghidoro, Italy, and also wears the good conduct medal, the Mediterranean thea ter ribbon with three bronze battle stars and the bronze star. His wife and three children are residing at Monmouth, Ore., un til living quarters are found in Medford. Barber's son, Robert Parker, is to leave soon for duty with the navy. Apply For Permits.. Dog Chews Arm Of Movie's Actor's Wife Hollywood, Aug. 4 (U.R) Mrs. Leo Carrillo, wife of the movie actor, was under treat ment today for a severe lacera tion of her left arm, hospital at tendants said was inflicted by her Great Dane dog.
