A. Durno, Medford physician
who has been in the European
theater for nearly two years, is
now in the United States and is
expected to arrive in Medford
on leave later this week, to visit
his wife and three children at
the family home, 1913 Hillcrest.
The officer telephoned his fam
ily Friday from Wilmington,
Del-, to say he had arrived in the
country, flying from Paris, and
that after a couple of days in
New York he will travel west to
Ft. Lewis before coming home.
Showwalter Discharged Cpl.
Ben T. Showwalter arrived
home July 29 from the separa
tion center at Ft; Lewis, Wash.,
where he received an honorable
discharge under the point sys
tem. Showwalter left Pisa,
Italy, after 34 months overseas
with the First Armored Division,
and traveled home via Casa
Blanca, Dakar, Natal, George
town. Puerto Rico, and Miami,
Fla. He had 123 points under!
the army rated system, and five
battle stars. He is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Showwalter,
route 2, box 67, Ashland.
Released From Army John
G. Barber arrived in the city
Thursday from Ft. Lewis, Wash-,
after receiving an honorable
discharge from the army July
16. As a technician, third grade,
Barber served 16 months over
seas in Africa and Italy and was
with the 91st division. He wears
the purple heart for wounds re
ceived at Monghidoro, Italy, and
also wears the good conduct
medal, the Mediterranean thea
ter ribbon with three bronze
battle stars and the bronze star.
His wife and three children are
residing at Monmouth, Ore., un
til living quarters are found in
Medford. Barber's son, Robert
Parker, is to leave soon for duty
with the navy.

ment today for a severe lacera
tion of her left arm, hospital at

Mrs. Carrillo was taken to

A nation-wide hunt tonight
sought a score of suspects some
reportedly OPA workers and of
ficials in a gang of ration board
safecrackers whose activities
were revealed when the ring's
big shot was killed for the love
theft of a young bride.
Hundreds of thousands of dol
lars and millions of stolen gaso
line ration stamps came into the
mob's coffers until the coast to
coast racket ran into murder

Sheriff's Detective Bureau of In
vestigation reported.
Harold T. (Dee) Young, whoso
real name officers said was Wil
liam Douglas Owens, 31, was
wounded fatally by 17-year-old
Leon Benon, when Young plan
ned to leave for Texas with Be
nin's pretty young wife, Lois
Jean, 16. She was attracted to
Young by his promises of a con
vertible automobile and "lots.of
excitement."
But before his death, Young
boasted to Lois of his position as
a "big shot" in a gasoline stamp
