OVEREATINO AND MALNUTRITION Continuing yesterday! talk (Obesity Is Malnutrition) here are some scientific observations for everybody who carries su perfluous flesh to consider: 1. Obesity Is malnutrition. 2. More than half of the cal ories in the av erage Ameri can diet are from refined e a rbohydrate starch or Or Brad? sugar. 3. More than half of the cal' orles in the diet of Americans 100 years ago were from car bohydrate, but not refined car bohydrate. People in those days ate whole wheat flour wheat ground In the old stone grist mill with nothing removed. They ate brown sugar and molasses from which nothing was re moved in refining. 4. So, as Dr. Norman Jolllffe expressed it: "It seems, therefore, that a 85 fraction of the calories in the American diet of 1840 con taining a minimum of 600 Inter national units of vitamin B has been replaced In the contempor aneous American diet by a like fraction containing only about B0 International units." 8. Although our great-grandparents didn't know It they got their vitamins in their bread, . sugar and molasses. 8. As Dr. Robert R. Williams expressed it: "Man commits a crime against nature when he ' eats the starch from the seed" (that's what refined white flour Is, mainly) "and throws away the mechanlsh for the metabol ism of that starch." Preparations for the second annual Night Club, to be held in the school gymnasium, Decem ber 19, are rapidly progressing. Girls of the home economics class entertained the football squads with a banquet Novem ber 8. Mr. Dlnken's shop class made the place cards. Maurice E. Scheel, school superintendent and athletic coach, was toast- master; Ray Mullen save the statistics of the games ' played this year. Seats of honor were placed for Ted Fraedrlck, star player, now training in the na val reserve at Farragut; end Glenn Falrchlld, who was ill, ana unable to attend. A wooden football was autographed by the football boys, and former class mates of Ted, and sent to him. Remainder of the guest list included: Mr. Scheel, Wallace Dlnkens, Warren Wright, Bud Bowman, Claude Turner, Ar llegh Anderson, Dee Neville, Don Harper, Murle Harper, Ray Mullen, Lee Cushman, Bobby Watklns, John Dolenshek, Arn old Ragsdale, Wayne William son, Gene Blair, Bill Brown Sterling Dltsworth, Tommy Carl ton and Bennle Ash. Vivian Hall and Mona Maloy were .hostesses for the evening. The cooking committee were Norma Chandler, Alice Smith, Jaunita Moore, and Coleen Barr; decorations were in charge of Betty Jane Svinth, Alice Smith, and Marie Chamberlin. Quite a number of high school girls tried out for majorette No vember 10. Miss Elva Carlton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Her bert Lee Carlton, was chosen head majorette, and her assist ants are Miss Nyoda Herman and miss viola Dally. Midgets Announce Plans For Wedding Austin, ex., Nov. 15 (U.R) miss Myrna Merle Clifton of Austin, world's only midget daughter of midget parents, is going to be married to a midget. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Clifton, announced Monday their daughter's engagement to August Clarence Swensen of Austin. Miss Clifton, who will be i 19 In February, is 60 inches tall, while her fiance, a senior radio mechanic at Kelly Field, San Antonio, is 26 and two Inches taller. Date for the wedding has not yet been set.
