(AP) Bend won the 11th annual Oregon high school track and field champion ships here today, piling up 32 points to bump Portland out of the uue for the first time In years. Franklin of Portland, second last year, scored 23 H points to take second this year. Salem placed third with 16'A. Washington of Portland fourth with 16, Corvallls fifth with 14 and Hood River alxth. Bill Blackledge. Corvallls, who broke the state shot put record In yesterday's preliminaries with a heave of 81 feet, 6 inches, broke his own record today with a toss of 63 feet, 2i Inches. His was the only new mark In the meet. Blackledge also took rirst in tne discus. Speedy Bob Dlez, Franklin, was high point man, taking first In the 100-yard and 220-yard dashes, and running a lap on the Quaker half mile relay team, which tied for sec ond. Athletic officials attending the meet voted to expand the former Oregon Track Coaches association to include all high school athletic mentors. Vernon Gllmore, Salem high school coach, was elected pres ident of the newly -organized group, which will be known as the Oregon High School Coaches association. Coaches condemned the abolition last winter of the rule limiting football players to nine semesters of competition. They voted to recommend to the state board of control that the -Oregon State High School Athletic as sociation take over the annual track meet. Instead of the state board , ot higher education contacts commit tee, and recommended that medals be awarded the first five men in each event. (jp Flngerllnga In the Fall river fish hatchery continued today to die by the thousands from a mysterious plague, the identity of which so far has. baffled experts, Matt L. Ryckman, superintendent of state fisheries, said some 3 000,000 eastern brook trout flngerltngs have died from a malady which gives some evidence of gill fungus. Other causes may be parasites, food or water pois oning, said Ryckman. An expert from Oregon State col lege arrived at the hatchery to aid state officials In studying, the dis ease. The hatchery Is located on a short tributary of the Deschutes river south of here. Aletha Vawter Wins Handicap Tourney Mrs. Aletha Vawter won the an nual ladles' handicap tournament ol the Rogue Valley Golf club Thura- day afternoon by defeating Mrs. Jerry Jerome. By her victory, Mrs. Vawter won possession of the Murray Beauty parlor trophy. Sixteen golfing ladles entered the tournament. The local women golfers will Jour ney to Grants Pass next Wednesday afternoon for a team match with the ladles of the Cave city. All who can make the trip are asked to contact Mrs. F. G. Bunch so that transpor tation may be furnished. It was also announced that the local ladles will play host to the Klamath Falls women golfers at the Rogue Valley Golf club June 2.
