PAGE THREW Society and Clubs Edited by IrVa Fewell Edwards Degree of Honor Has Yule Program Music and readlnga fitting to the Ohxtotmaa Mon marked an enjoy able meeting of the Degree of Honor iociety attended by a large number Thursday In the women' club rooma of the city hall. Presented by the Juvenile Degree of tfonor club members, the program was begun by singing Christmas carols, with Louis Parker accompany ing at the piano. Old Santa was present at the Christmas tree, and candy, nut and gifts were distribut ed to everyone. Many of the members enjoyed dancing after the program. The numbers were "Christmas Hurrah". Maurice Campbell: "Christ mas Cheer," Marjorle Ooddard; a harmonica solo. Merle Dietrich: number by three tiny tote. Dtckey Coats. Maxlne Powell and Billy Pow ell: Yuletlde songs by Naomi Hubler; "Song of Christmas." Shirley Good man; "Jean's Christmas Gift," Jean Den man; tap dance by Virginia Haw ley and Barbaretta Landlze, accom panied by Mrs. Hawley at the piano; reading. "Mrs. Santa," Naomi Hubler: vocal duet, Jlmmle Schulte and Paul Wagner: "Last Chrlatmaa Wishes" by the Juvenile club president, Catherine Campbell. The service cap waa presented to Ethel Blgler, and Jimmy Schultz was presented with earned honors, both presentations being made by the ju venile club director, Ida M. Wilson. The next regular meeting of the Degree ol Honor is to be held at the club rooms January 3. to Install the officers for 1935. The Juvenile Degree of Honor will hold Its next meeting January S, and large attendances are urged at both meetings. The Juvenile club will also install Its new officers. Mr. and Mrs. Lenox Have Holiday Guests. Mr. and Mrs. John G. Gore of Eu gene are guest of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr.' and Mrs. Ray Lenox of 48 Rose avenue. Friends of Mr. Gore will be glad to learn he la convalescing from a recent opera tion. Mrs. Edith Reader and daughter. Sarah Leigh of San Francisco are also guests over the holidays at the Lenox home. Mrs. Reader Is a sister of Mrs. Lenox. Hundred Attend Neighbors9 Meet Royal Neighbors with their fami lies and invited friends, numbering about 100, met Thursday evening at the K. of P. hall wneio the follow ing splendid program was enjoyed while the kiddles were waiting for Santa to appear. Opening number, "Silent Night," by all present, with Margsretha Gar rett at the piano; "Toy Maker's Dream." Vernon Thetcher. Margs retha Garrett, accompanist. Miss La Murle Beck, who is home from Mills for the holidays, gave two lovely solos, "Christmas Dawn" and "My Sister's Best Feller" with Marie Silvia at the piano: piano duet by Helen Richmond and Kenneth Jones; violin solo. "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem," Stanley Jones, i companied by Coretta Jones; group song. "The Christmas Tree." Mary Glascock. Beverly Pearson. Darrell Shirley and Virginia Lovell: group of songs. "Ariel" by Margaretha Garrett; recitation, "Santa is Com ing." Elmer Bashaw: arrival of Santa and distribution of treats and pres ents for all. Illness prevented most of the serv ing committee from acting so a no host committee served refreshments, bringing to a close a very pleasant Yuletlde party. Roosevelt School Has Xmas Program The following program was en Joyed by the pupils and "patrons of Roosevelt school last Friday after noon. Christmas records' on the Victrola: playlet. Proprietor Church Group Is Given Xmas Play Sunny Sisters of the Presbyterian church me laat veck at the country home of Mrs. D. w. Luke. Luncheon was served at 1 p. m. by the hostess assisted by Miss Burr, Mrs. Arch Work Mrs. Penny Pickett. Mrs. J. H. Coch ran and Mr a. N. C. Cheney. Following luncheon a beautiful service waa .conducted by Mr,. Frank Albert. She, reed bible prophecies foretelling tlie coming of the Savior. It waa a beautiful and Impressive ser vice. After the business meeting, which waa presided over by Mrs. Louis Brown, a Christmas play wa given. entitled "Whet'e the matter with Christmas?" The play waa presented by Mrs. rtonby. Mra.,Arch Work. Mrs. J. H. Cochran. Mra. Louie Brown. Mrs. A. C. Clement. Mrs. Ralph Sweeney, Mra. William .Young and Elizabeth Burr. Junior Musicians Have Xmas Party The Junior Musicians met for their regular meeting- and Chrlstmaa party at the atudlo of their teacher, Mrs. Effle Yeoman; Thursday evening. Olfts were exchanged among the membera and an Interesting program to which each one contributed waa enjoyed. ' Musical games -and contests were held and all eang carols for their guests. Katherlne Gentner played "Humoresque," !by Dvorak, and the story of "Funeral March by the Ma rionettes" was read and then Inter preted at two planoa by Mrs. Yeo man and Mrs. aims. Heiresnmente 01 popcorn nans were served. Members present were: Katherlne Gentner. Laura Centner. Philip Hen- selman, Phoebe Swem. Katherlne You- mans. Grace Youmana. Norene Bohn- ert. Joan Willard, Robert Plttenger, Joyce Sims, Neva Croucher, Donald Croucher. The guests were Mesdames Croucher, Slma, Gentner and Bobby Forsythe. The next meeting la to be held January 9. Miss Helen Smith High In Bridge Score On Friday evening a public card party waa held at the Redmen hall, sponsored by the wenonah club. The committee In charge ox tne caras was Sarah Tolle and Velma Singler. High scores In bridge were held by Helen Smith and Jack Dooms and low scores were received by Florence Rush and Harold Waltermire. In pinochle high scores went to Carrie Mtlnes and Otla Hubbard, while low scorea were held by Gladys Dooms and Ed Pettit. In 600 high acore went to Maude Abbott and low to Magg! sklne. Refreshments were served by Carrie Mllnes, Dorotha Watklns. Lena Gun ther, Maggie Ersklne, Mabel Quacken bush and Mary Zundell. Nellie Purdln Hostess to Club I On Thursday afternoon Nellie Pur dln was hostess to the Wenonah club at her home on West Holly street. The meeting waa In the form of a social card party with seven tables of bridge In play, and high score was received by Gladya waltermire, see ond by Dorothy Dlckel, traveling prise to Auatla Barnsburg, chair prlra to Gladya Lawrenti and low score to Hazel Anderson. All those present received appro priate verses, taken from the Chrlst maa tree prepared by the hostess and the assisting committee. Visitors for the afternoon were Mra. Hilda Clifford, Mrs. May Denman of thla city and Mrs. Pesrl Gibson of Ashland. Refreshments were served with Jua- nita Thornton. Maude Abbott and Blanche Rlnabarger assisting the hos tess. Mrs. Heard's Aunt Holds Reunion On Century Birthday ALBANY. Ore.. Dec 33. iSpl.) Mra. Angelina Carter of Welle, nor thern Benton county, who celebrated her hundredth birthday on Decem ber 18, will be honored today at a family reunion to be held in ner home. Mrs. Carter expect nearly all of her lineal descendant,, of whom there are . Including i children. 37 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren. S great-great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-great-grandchildren, six generations In all. . Mra. Carter refuses to accept am with her housework and Uvea alone, preparing her own meala and even splitting the wood If none of her relatlvea are about. She was born December 18, 1634. in Missouri, the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Leander Belleu. Coming with her parents to ore- ton In 1843 Angelina was marrieo to Tolbert Carter near Dallas In 1850. Mr. Carter died In 1899. The couple moved to the Wells community In 1853 and Mra. Carter hu resided on the same farm ever alnce. Mrs. Carter Is an aunt of Mrs. 0. C. Tumy gave a fine Christmas devotional on the subject "Our Savior from the Eternal Past to the Eternal Future." The following program waa then presented: Duet, "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem" by Mrs. James Grtgsby and Mrs. Gerald Bsrr accompanied by Mrs. Wm. McAllister: reading. "Star In Bethlehem" by Mrs. Jewctt of Central Point: vocal solo, "Once In Royal David's City" by Mrs. Maurine Duncan accompanied by Mrs. Barr. Mrs. Faber read the story entitled A Chrlstmaa Vision." Refreshments and Christmas candle favors were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Faber, Mrs. Barr and Mrs. Grtgsby. Mrs. Myers Hoates To M. E. Fidelity Circle .Mrs. O. V. Myers was hostess to the Fidelity circle of the First M. E. church at her home on the old North Pacific highway Tuesday afternoon. A dessert luncheon was served at 1 :30. alter which the business meettng was held. Mrs. Koppes, president of the circle, presided at the meeting. De- votlonals were led by Mrs. Smith. At the close of the business meet ing a fat Santa appeared and dis tributed gifts (rom a tiny Christmas tree. Those present were: Mesdames Ag nes Koppes, C. H. Berry, E. C. Koppea, A. E. Lyman, Mabel Barrett, E. G. Roseborough, Mary Smith, E. Hltzler. C. C, Van Scoyoc, Alma Mortensen, Ray Anderson, R. C. Morris. Nellie Wall, and the hostess, Mrs. Myers. Christmas Program OHen By Washington School. Teachers of the Washington school were in charge of an Interesting program Friday evening at the school. in the annual Christmas' party given by the P.-T. A. Each room presented a number in the entertainment. The children and teachers filled 25 baskets to be distributed on i Christmas to families In the rural 1 districts, and those In charge ex pressed their appreciation for the generous contributions. Santa Claua was present at the Christmas tree, giving a treat to each child. A large attendance enjoyed the program. Fifty Attend Meet of Loyal Women's Class The Loyal Women's class of the First Christian church assembled in the recreational hall of the church December IS. A covered dish luncheon was served at noon to about fifty membera and friends. Following a short business session waa held, with election of of ficers for 193S. A fine program ol songs, readings, dialogues and recita tions was rendered and enjoyed by all present. ilea ner Class Ha Supper, Xmas Party The Gleaner class of the First Bap- tlst church held a Christinas party! Thursday, beginning with a covered dish and chicken pie supper which was very much enjoyed. The tables were prettily decorated with tiny Christmas trees and other Christmas greens, and a large electric-lighted tree stood on the platform. After the supper. Myron Eaton sang a aolo. followed by two num bers 'by the ladles quartet. While the tables were bring cleared the choir practiced upstairs, and the rest of the evening wan spent playing games directed by Mrs. Hogue. Diirnos Moats for Medical Society. Dr. and Mrs. E. R. Dux no were boats Wednesday evening at a dinner meeting of the Jackson County Medi cal society. Dr. G. W. Gregg of Ash land read the paper of the evening on "Obesity." a topic which called forth much interested dlscus&tc?. Dr. McFarland. member of the staff of the University of California hos pital in San Francisco, was a guest speaker, taking for his topic, ''the common cold." Aid Society to Have Monte Coming. Heme coming of the First M. E. Church Aid society will be held In the church parlors Thursday, De cember 27 at 3:00 p.m. The Mary and Martha circle will be in chsrge of refreshments and program.
