The middle school men took ninth in varsity (7/8) and tenth in JV (5/6), while the women took fifth in varsity and 11 th in JV. Jack Lorts, a poet from Fossil, OR, led the class. E ach a s p irin g p o e t created a M oebius strip, which is a surface with only one side. Each person tried to come up with a poem that had no beginning and no end, but co u ld be read continuously. D e s p ite th e la r g e margin for confusion, it was a good time and each person took home their creation. T he w o rk s h o p w as attended by Kristy Crowell, Anne Morter, June Crowell, M a rg o S h e r e r , S h e lly Rietm ann, Ola Rietmann and Payton Miller. The event was provided to the library by Libraries o f Eastern Oregon. The mens’ team placed eight out o f 10 teams with 13 points, while the women scored seventh o f 10 teams with 17 points. A n o th e r m eet w ith to u g h c o m p e titio n has m a d e th e lo n e te a m s te a d ily im p ro v e th e ir perform ances. The team had four season record (SR) performances and set nine Personal Records (PRs). Team s c o re rs w ere Bailey Haguewood, Emily Holland and Jessie Flynn. Haguewood placed in all four o f his events, w ith season records in two o f them. He threw the javelin 148 feet and long jumped 19’, 2” . Emily Holland placed in two o f her three events, and so did Jessie Flynn, with a season record in the 300M Hurdles at 50.37a. A d d itio n a l SRs and PRs are indicated in the stats below. With four meets under their feet and five left to go, lone currently has four athletes in the state 1A Top Ten in 10 events, as well as the wom en’s 4x400 relay. Top 10 athletes are: J e ss ie F ly n n in the 4 0 0 M , 300M h u r d le s , high jum p and long jump; Cord Flynn in the 300M hurdles; Bailey Haguewood in javelin, high jump, long jum p and triple jump; and Emily Holland in javelin. A n o th e r a th le te , L uke Jobes, is on the radar in the 800M , sitting at num ber 14 with only two seconds to cut. C urrently in the top ten in the district (Special D is tr ic t # 3 ) a re b o th the m en ’s and w o m en 's 4x400 relay teams and the m en’s 4x100 relay team. With the balance o f the team m aking steady improvements in each o f their individual events, the team rem ains exciting to w atch. Several m em bers have recently tried new events, setting benchmarks. It w ill be in terestin g to w atch them im prove in those events, as well. This Saturday, April 26, lone travels go to Union. On Tuesday, April 29, they meet in Stanfield. On Friday, May 2, the Cardinals travel to Sisters for a twilight meet before going on to Joseph for a meet the following Friday, May 9. On Saturday, May 10, there will be a meet for qualifiers only at the IA Track Classic in Portland. Saturday, May 17, lone will host the district track meet in Moro. at Sherman Co. High School.
