Heppner uazette-lim es, Heppner uregon Road Bowling returns to St. Pat’s weekend H e p p n e r ’s Ir is h Road Bowling event will draw the St. Patrick’s Day w eekend celebration to a close on Sunday, M arch 15. Participants in this fourth-year event w ill gather on Sunday afternoon before the 1:30 p.m. activity com mences. Participants must be 18 years old or older. This Irish sport that dates back to the 1600’s was played in America by the Irish troops in West Virginia during the C ivil War. In recent years, a resurgence o f interest in the sport has developed in both Ireland and the United States. Hep p n e r’s event has gained popularity since it was first offered in 2006, and entries are lim ited, so interested persons should pick up en try forms at the Chamber of Commerce Office and return them, filled out, soon. Teams of two to four members com pete over a course o f approxim ately one m ile by to ssin g the iron-and-steel “bowls” that w eigh 28-ounce and are slightly smaller in diameter than a tennis ball. The team that completes the course with the fewest tosses wins. In 2006 and 2008, teams of four won. In 2007, a team of two won the competition. E ach p a r tic ip a n t must pay $5 to play. The purse is then divided, with half going into the St. Pat ric k ’s W eekend fund and half being divided among the top three teams. Names of the winning team’s mem bers will be added to the trophy that is on display in ences everywhere. The goal o f The Blue Mountain Old Time Fiddlers Association is to keep the art of old time, dance hall music alive. D uring the fiddle show Equine Elegance and the Stir It Up 4-H groups will be selling pie and cof fee. Come and listen to good old time music and support your local 4-H kids. Rather frequently the ques tion arises as to how large a deposit a buyer should put down or, to put it another way, how much deposit should the seller reasonably require? The deposit should be suf ficient to make sure the buyer will have good reason to see the transaction through and to reimburse the seller for taking the property o ff the market and other expenses in case the buy er defaults. The length o f time from signing the agreement to the date o f transfer may have a bearing. Spectators are welcome at the event but are cautioned to remain a safe distance from the action because the bowls are heavy and have been known to break bones in unfortunate situations. Spray Rodeo tryouts to be held The children at Heppner Head Start are raffling off a queen-sized blanket. The cost of the tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and can be purchase tickets at Artisan Village (where the blanket is on display), Lott’s Electric, or from any Head Start parent. The class will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants should bring their own lunch. The cost o f the w orkshop is $22 and pre-registration is required. Kick Boardman appoints new planning commissioner Tuesday night the B oardm an C ity C ouncil appointed Kellye Finch to the B oardm an P lan n in g Commission. She will serve a three year term ending December 31,2011. Ms. Finch is a city resident with a history o f volunteering in the Board- man community. She has served on the Boardm an Police Advisory Committee and the Boardman School Board Advisory Committee. She has also volunteered with the Boardman Senior Center and the AARP Tax Advisory program. The Boardman Plan- ning Commission meets the third W ednesday o f each month to discuss city plan ning issues for recommen dation to the Boardman City Council. Currently there are two vacancies on the com mission; the city would like to fill those immediately. Interested parties should contact Boardman City Hall for information on how to apply.
