Road Bowling returns to St. Pat’s weekend

Road Bowling event will

Participants in this
fourth-year event w ill gather
on Sunday afternoon before
the 1:30 p.m. activity com­
mences. Participants must
be 18 years old or older.
This Irish sport that
dates back to the 1600’s was
played in America by the
Irish troops in West Virginia
during the C ivil War. In
recent years, a resurgence
o f interest in the sport has
developed in both Ireland
and the United States. Hep­
p n e r’s event has gained
popularity since it was first
offered in 2006, and entries
are lim ited, so interested
persons should pick up en­
try forms at the Chamber of
Commerce Office and return
them, filled out, soon.
Teams of two to four
members com pete over a
course o f approxim ately
one m ile by to ssin g the
iron-and-steel “bowls” that
w eigh 28-ounce and are
slightly smaller in diameter
than a tennis ball. The team
that completes the course
with the fewest tosses wins.
In 2006 and 2008, teams of
four won. In 2007, a team of
two won the competition.

must pay $5 to play. The
purse is then divided, with
half going into the St. Pat­
ric k ’s W eekend fund and
half being divided among
the top three teams. Names
of the winning team’s mem­
bers will be added to the
trophy that is on display in

HOW MUCH DOWN?
Rather frequently the ques­
tion arises as to how large a
deposit a buyer should put
down or, to put it another way,
how much deposit should the
seller reasonably require?
The deposit should be suf­
ficient to make sure the buyer
will have good reason to see
the transaction through and to
reimburse the seller for taking
the property o ff the market and
other expenses in case the buy­
er defaults. The length o f time
from signing the agreement to
the date o f transfer may have
a bearing. For example, one
