VOL. 128 NO. 9 10 Pages Wednesday, March 4, 2009 Morrow County, Heppner, Oregon ICABO circulating petition for cell service lo n e C o m m u n ity Agri-Business Organization (ICA BO ) is circulating a petition asking US Cellular to site a cellular tower that would prov ide coverage for the City o f lone and sur rounding areas. The petition is sup ported by over 20 local businesses and community organizations. A ccording to ICABO Representative Greg Smith and US Repre sentative Greg Walden have also endorsed this project. Petitions are avail able in lone at M CG G , BEO and W heatland In surance. Petition are also available at BEO in Heppner and MCGG in Lexington. You do not have to be a US Cellular customer to benefit from a cellular tower in the lone area. All those who travel Hvvy 74 between Heppner and Arlington w ill benefit from this project. He was born in the Helena, MT Ter ritory on February 4, 1888 to Patrick Michael Sweeney and Mary Hawkes Sweeney. Patrick Michael Sweeney was born March 17, 1854 in Glenties County, Donegal, Ireland, and arrived at El lis Island, NY on May 14, 1875. Mary Hawkes was born in Inishannon, County Cork, Ireland, on February 21,1864, to James Hawkes and Ellen Mahoney. She ar rived in Boston October 19, 1 883 and married Patrick on February 12, 1886 in Helena. P a t’s g reat-g ran d fath er, P atrick M ichael Sweeney, had 11 siblings, eight b ro th ers and three sisters. Patrick Michael and his siblings were born in County Donegal to Patrick Owen Sweeney and Ellen Gallagher Sweeney. Patrick Owen Sweeney raised sheep and grew flax for many years in Donegal. He made sev eral trips to America prior to the Civil War to sell wool in Philadelphia. Patrick Owen Sw eeney’s father, Patrick Sweeney, was listed in the Irish Flax Growers List for County Donegal in 1796, as was his father, Patrick the Heppner United Meth odist Church members -Lind's Concession - Open at 10 a.m. - Featur ing corn dogs, elephant ears, funnel cakes, nachos, beer battered onion rings, cot ton candy, caramel apples. Cornelius came to America in 1871 continued page X DUII saturation patrols in effect for St. Pat’s Celebration Irish Boxing Smoker to be held at HHS The Heppner C h am b er o f C o m m erce and UROCk 96.1 FM will hold the second annual Irish Boxing Smoker on Friday, March 13, at 8 p.m. at the Heppner High School gym nasium. A $300 purse is up for grabs. Adm ission will be $10 (12 years - adult), $5 (8-11 years), and free for ages seven and under. Arrangements have been made with M orrow County Special Transporta tion to offer a delivery ser vice from downtown to the high school and dropping back off downtown when the event is over.
