August 3, 1988 - THREE Activity increases at North M orrow Food center By J o y c e H en sley Activity at the North Morrow County emergency food distribution center in Irngon has increased, ac cording to volunteer. Dorothy Irish The emergency food center was organized to assist low income level families and indis iduals who qualify under the poverty income level L o w incom e fa m ilies , sin gle parents, disabled persons, migrants and seasonal farm workers are eligi hie for emergency food assistance " W e seem to have more families than individuals right n o w ." said Irish The center is located in the cast end o f the old Seventh Day Adven list Church building in Irngon Food is donated by several d if ferent sources Oregon Ftwxl Share, a private organization whose pur pose is to alleviate hunger in Oregon. The Federal Fmergcncy Management Agency (F E M A ). a federally funded organization ad ministered by the local United Way. the United States Department o f Agriculture (U S D A ). and local citizens The distnbutKin center serves all o f North Morrow County and is open Tuesdays from 9 a m to 3 p m Five local volunteers take turns manning the center * " I t there were more volunteers, we would consider being open another day during the w eek ." said Irish Information and referrals for Food Stamps. "Actually, I was born in a melon patch," Frederickson said with a grin. A wide variety of melons are sold at the stand such as Crim son Sweet, Old Blue Ribbon, All Sweet and Stripped Klondike.
