Princess Nancy prepares for fair week • Nancy Bailey is the 17 year old daughter of Dwight and Jancll Hailey of Heppner Nancy will he a senu»r at Heppner High School this tall She has two brothers older than she and both are married and base been tnvolsed in rodeo at one lime or another Morrow County's Home-Owned Newspaper imes azette VOL 106 NO. 32 Wednesday^August 10, 1988 Heppner 25* 8 Pages Mahoney successful in bid for office Mike Mahoney was successful this last week in Pueblo. Colo in his run for vice president of the National High School Rodeo Associalain (NHSRA) Mike was a contestant in calf roping and steer wrestling as well as running for national office He placed 23rd in calf roping out of 146 contestants Two others were running for this office, a girl from South Dakota and a boy from Minnesota All week long during the National High School Rodeo finals, the can didates campaigned for ofTice Satur day, they presented their speeches to 1400 kaJs unending the NHSRA and Sunday the elections were held In his speech. Mike stated that "1 would like to keep the high quality of rodeo stock that they have always had and am interested in acquiring more scholarships " This year SI 10,000 in scholarships were given out to contestants The officers of the NHSRA will be attending the National FFA con vention in Kansas City and also go to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas Last year's officers attend ed the Winter Olympics Oregon made a good showing this year at the finals They now have a National Champion in the Boys Cow Cutting. Nancy was tonunate enough to attend a large sheep show and sale in Missouri She went with some Iriends of the family and help fit sheep for the show This show is the second largest ot its kind in the Cnited States The Morrow County Fair and Rodeo and the Pendleton Round I p are things Nancy is looking forward to this summer She also is planning to attend the Walla Walla Fair and show her sheep in Open ('lass.
