EIGHT The Ileppner GaieUe IMS Drama Club delights audiences By JUSTINE WEATHER FORD The main feature of last week's amusing high school play was the great big doorstep which the Crochet family had rescued from the Mississippi River near Grass Margin. Louisiana in the mid-1930's and had attacked to their crowded, shack-like home. The play's authors. Francis Goodrich and Albert Hackett, created very amus ing characters and gave them interesting actions and words as they struggled together to improve their family life. Eight senior class members took parts in the production. The experienced female per- -formers were Polly Forten berry, as Mrs. Crochet, whose husband called her "Duck"; Marti Baker as the second oldest Crochet daughter, Evvie. and Karen Kenny as the oldest daughter christened Topal when her mother could n't decide between Topaz and Opal. Cindi Bergstrom as Mrs. Dupre' the landowner and Patti Devine as Mrs. Beau mont Crochet, the florist, were neophites who managed their minor parts very nicely. The top male role was Terry Gray's as Father Crochet, a transplanted, married Little Abaer whose wife called him "big orangutang." Gray cer tainly is a talented first-time actor. Two other senior boys. Earl Hammond and Lee Rice carried on in minor roles. Sophomore Danny Forter.ber ry did a fine job as Arthur Crochet, a son who caused his mother great concern. Fac ulty member Jim Ackley was outstanding as river pilot Dwey Crochet. Two elemen tary school students, experi enced actress Carrie Brown field and newcomer Cindy Stroeber were the cute twins, Elna and Fleece Crochet. The Cajun dialect used throughout the three acts was an added challenge to the cast. Their performances were surely enhanced by the fine crew: stage manager, Cindi Bergstrom, sound super visor, Steve Groce; lights, Larry Cerullo and director Jane Rawlins. The leading feature, the great, big door step and the shack behind it and the landscape surround ing it were constructed by Bill Rawlins, Lee Rice, Glenn Smith, Mary Ann Cerullo, Wes Marlatt and Larry Cerullo. The total effort really de lighted the small audience on Tuesday evening and the larger attendance on Thurs day evening. Free movie March 14 "No Longer Alone." winner of three prestigious film-industry awards, will be shown on Sunday. March 14. at the Nazarene church in Heppner. The showing, open to the public free of charge, is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.. announced the Rev. Floyd Wilks. pastor. The film, a true story, takes a close look at a woman who was searching desperately for love and acceptance, but whose cries went unheard by those who surrounded her. Originally released by World Wide Pictures in com mercial theatres, the film is now one hour in length in preparation for its eventual presentation as a television special. "No Longer Alone" was filmed in color on location in London, and stars Belinda Carroll. Wilfrid Hyde White. James Fox. Samantha Gates, and Gordon DeVol. Simon Williams, who has one of the leading roles in the BBC production, "Upstairs. Down stairs." also stars in the film. The title song was performed by recording artist, B.J Thomas. It is 261 degrees F. below zero on the planet Saturn. - Times. Ileppner, Oregon.
