Foundation to hold 1st membership meeting Pioneer Memorial Hospital Foundation, Morrow County Inc. will hold its first annual general membership meeting Tuesday, January 26, 8 p.m., at the Columbia Basin Elec tric meeting room in Heppner. The meeting is called, in accordance with the by-laws and articles of incorporation, to conduct the business of the foundation and to elect a new seven member board of dir ectors. Immediately following the general membership meeting the new board will call a meeting to draw lots for term of office and organize itself, stated a spokesperson from the foundation. The founding The family of Ida Grabill cordially invites all friends and relatives to a 100th birthday party given in her honor on Sunday, January 31, 1982. at the lone Grange Hall. Heppner M I Lana Reid, a Heppner eighth grade student, won the 12 -13 year-old girls division in the District Elk's Hoop Shoot contest held in Hermiston, Jan. 9. She and her competitor had a shoot -off to break the tie and Reid was successful. Reid will compete in the state contest in Corvallis on Jan. 23 against five girls in her division. If she wins the state title she will compete in the regional contest in Portland manner that one Heppner man soon will. The Rev. Flovd Wilks. pastor of the Heppner Nazar end Church, will leave Janu ary 31 for Costa Rica to contribute his time to help build a missionary house with funds donated bv his late grandfather. Wilks' late grandfather. John L. Wilks. left one-half of his estate to the Crestline Church of the Nazarene. Spokane. Wash, to he used toward missionary work. Crestline Church decided to use the funds to purchase building materials for a need ed missionary house near the Nazarene Seminary al San Jose. Costa Rica. Members of Crestline invited the Heppner pastor to join the 35 member Work and Witness Team to help fulfill his grandfather's wishes. Some members of the group Wilks said. Heppner boys back on winning track The Heppner junior varsity boys basketball team got back on the winning track by beating Weston-McEwen 33 -29 at Athena Friday night. The Mustang JV's got off to a slow start in the slow-paced game, falling behind 4 - 3 after one quarter and 16 - 9 at halftime. Heppner was behind by as much as nine points in the second half, but battled back to tie the game at 25 - 25 after three quarters. Heppner's press began to wear on the Tiger-Scots in the fourth quarter, giving the Mustangs some fast break baskets. Their tight defense shut down Weston-McEwen. allowing them only four points in the quarter. Sid Kennedy, Jay Hayes, and Marty Britt led Heppner's balanced scoring attack with seven points apiece, and Shane Laughlin chipped in six. The Mustangs shot an icy .204 shooting percentage from the field, hitting 11 of 54 shots, and wasn't much better at the foul line, converting 11 of 30 charity tosses for a .366 clip, said Coach Brent Eggers. Gideons International will sponsor a replacement for the Heppner Nazarene January 31 service and the Rev. Earl McCool of Kennewick, Wash, will conduct the services on Feb 7 On the last of three Sundays that Wilks will be away. Feb. 14. the Rev. George Nichols of Caldwell. Idaho will carrv out services. a .217 mark from the field. Kennedy and Laughlin led the rebounding charts with nine caroms apiece, while Hayes grabbed eight. In Coach Brent Eggers special rating system, Mark Way led with a 4-4 rating. According to Eggers, the Heppner team played a much smarter game than it had in the last two outings. The Mustangs cut their foul total to 16, compared to Weston McEwen's 25, and committed 20 turnovers, down from two consecutive games of 30 or more. "We controlled the tempo of the game much better than we had in the last couple of games," said Eggers. "We played great defense and even ran our offense well, despite missing several easy shots again. Marty Britt did an excellent defensive job on Weston's best scorer, Rick Toney. holding him to six points, and Mark Way gave us a big lift off the bench for the second game in a row." The Heppner JV's, now 4 - 3 on the season, host the Echo JV's Thursday. McElligott 2 2-2 6, Fillies win over Vikings 53-44 The Heppner Fillies played Umatilla last Saturday on the Fillies' home court. The Fillies were victorious. 53 44. Top scorer for the game was Mary Kincaid with 22 points. Ann Murray and Sandra Ward followed with 10 and 7 points respectively, Rockets defeat Heppner The Pilot Rock Rockets defeated the Heppner fresh man team on January 14, 63 -35. The Rockets had the home court advantage. Todd Miller was top scorer for a lost cause with thirteen points. David Green was second highest with 12. follow ed by Ron Doherty with six and Kevin Kennison and Cam George each had two points. Miller was once again on top with 14 rebounds, followed by Kennison who had six. Steve C'urritr and Ron Doherty each grabbed four rebounds while Travis Hyatt and Cam George had two apiece. David Green added one relxiund for the effort. MEAL THREE. MARINATED WITH VEGGIES Marinate julienne strips of cooked round tip with slices of onion, green pepper, cucurnlx?r, carrots, and fresh mushrooms, in French or low-calorie round -r- 3 cups cooked beef, cut into strips 2 tablespoons salad oil 1 clove garlic, chopped 2 stalks celery, cut diagonally in thin slices 2 carrots, cut diagonally 1 onion, cut in chunks V4 pound mushrooms, halved cup water Va cup soy sauce 2 tablespoons cornstarch V teaspoon ginger Heat oil in large frying pan over medium heat. Add garlic and saute one minute. Add beef, celery, carrots and onion. Cook and stir 3 minutes or just until vegetables are tender, yet crisp. Add mush rooms and cook 2 minutes longer. Mix together water, soy sauce, cornstarch and ginger. Add to stir fry and cook until mixture boils and thickens. Serve immediately. Makes 4 to 6 servings. WRITE FOR COMPLETE RECIPES.
