The chief symptom of a cataract is persistent blurred vision Pain or red ness of the eyes is not a part of the development of cataracts. "Cataracts are surgically removed by opthalmologists (eye physicians) when the -blurred vision interferes with the daily functions of the individual. Many patients with cataracts have adequeale vi sion to still carry on comfort able reading and driving. Thus, having a cataract does not mean that one must be operated on unless the pres ence of the blurred vision is hindering the individual. With modern techniques, the oph thalmologist no longer has to wait for the cataract to become soft or "ripe" before surgery is carried out." from page 1 leaders of the caliber of French and Hughes "had . agreed to share their time, talents and efforts in this campaign.
