The Mustang JV's got off to
a slow start in the slow-paced
game, falling behind 4 - 3 after

halftime. Heppner was behind
by as much as nine points in
the second half, but battled
back to tie the game at 25 - 25

Heppner's press began to

fourth quarter, giving the
Mustangs some fast break

Sid Kennedy, Jay Hayes,

seven points apiece, and
Shane Laughlin chipped in six.

Kennedy and Laughlin led
the rebounding charts with
nine caroms apiece, while
Hayes grabbed eight.
In Coach Brent Eggers
special rating system, Mark
Way led with a 4-4 rating.
According to Eggers, the
Heppner team played a much
smarter game than it had in
the last two outings. The
Mustangs cut their foul total to
16, compared to Weston
McEwen's 25, and committed
20 turnovers, down from two
consecutive games of 30 or
more.
"We controlled the tempo of
the game much better than we
had in the last couple of
games," said Eggers. "We
played great defense and even
ran our offense well, despite
missing several easy shots
again. Marty Britt did an
excellent defensive job on
Weston's best scorer, Rick
Toney. holding him to six
points, and Mark Way gave us
a big lift off the bench for the
second game in a row."
