Cantuloupe should hove a fragrant, sweet odor, with a course netting on the rind. A slightly sunken smooth scar at the stem end shows the melon was mature when picked. Watermelons will by syme trical in shape, firm to the touch, and velvety in apear ance when ripe. A yellowish color on the underside of the melon says the fruit is at its best. Crenshaw melons are more expensive. They have a thick, Juicy, very rich but delicious flesh. They're ready to eat when the skin color is almost a solid yellow, according to Velma Seat, food marketing specialist. Honeydew melons have a creamy yellow color Co. Health Dept. sets records By MAKY ANN CKIU'i.I.O Morrow County Health De partment set two records during the month of July, stated Put Wright, County Heulth nurse, in the July report to County Court. It was decided during the July administrators meeting, that all Morrow County schools will deny enrollment to kindergarten and first grade students unless a shot report shows that the child has received recommended im munizations. Wright further reported that there is presently a confirmed case of measles in Condon. The Health Department is currently on the lookout for its possible spread into Morrow County. "Most of our susceptible individuals have been vaccin ated against it," stated Pat Wright. Two Morrow Co. women receive U of O degrees Eugene Mayor Gus Keller will be the featured speaker at the University of Oregon's summer term commencement on Saturday, Aug. 15. Ceremonies will be held at 10:30 a.m. outdoors at Hay ward Field. If it rains the event will be held in McArthur Court. The public is welcome to attend. Keller is serving his second term as mayor. Prior to the 1976 mayoral election, Keller was a city councilman for four years. He is currently an investment broker. Of the 1,000 degree candi dates eligible to participate in the ceremonies, 581 are slated to receive bachelor's degrees, 477 advanced degrees and two law degrees.
