Billy Bellamy R- Cul ver) announced that on June 211, just two dnys before the cotiHtitutional deadline, the Oregon State Senate and House of Representatives both repassed HR 2001 which re draws Oregon's legislative districts. The governor signed the bill the next afternoon. "I will still be the represent ative for the present District 55 until the general election of K1H2 when all the new House districts will go into effect." Rep. Bellamy said. With the plan, one half of the Senate districts will be used in 19R2 with the other half (including all the Eastern Oregon Senate districts) going into effect in IttfU. due to the fact that 15 of the senators' four-year terms won't expire until that time. Since them, one has flown awav to freedom, one met a fatal accident and one is to soon receive freedom. Through a series of boxes and a large cage these four beautiful barn owls are now in a large outside rage, becoming verv indepen dent and learning In fly. Many people, including two rooms of first graders from Heppner. four rooms of grade school students from Hermisfnn. the slnrv hour group at the Heppner i.ibrarv. nnd others at the Neighborhood Center and the Pioneer Nursing Home have enjnved seeing and learning about barn owls the pellet, the diet, the coloring of their unique heart-shaped face. Anhorn said she probably learned the most as she cut up ground squirrels for their feedings, read in books to learn about them and listened to them hiss, stomp and flap their wings at her. Marion and Clackamas counties, formerly part of District 55. were joined with districts which are completely west of the Cascades. Wasco. Sherman and flilliam counties are now included in a five county district with Hood River and Wheeler counties Finally. Morrow Counlv was joined with the three counties of Crook. Grant and Raker. The new Congressional dis-, tricts. including the new 5th district, have not yet been drawn but the legislature is not pressured with a deadline to make those decisions.
