David and April Hilton Sykes, Publishers LETTERS TO THE EDITOR No senior run To the Editor: In the July 2nd "Around About" column, the writer made a statement ..."to be a Senior run program." How ironic ! The local senior program in the last few years has not been a senior-run program, instead it is a program dictated by a couple people with assistants. Last spring, at the closing of the Center meal site, 75 seniors from Heppner, Lex ington and lone signed a paper asking that the meal time be continued at 4:30 p.m., with only two or three wanting a noon meal. Also, 70 some of those asked that the meals be continued at the Center and the lone Church, with only two or three wanting a move. The wishes of the group were promptly ignored. Waste of rate payers' dollars To the Editor: I would like you to add this appeal for help to your column ' of letters. As a member of the board of directors of Columbia Basin Electric Cooperative, I have not been as effective as I have wished on some important issues. I need help from interested co-op members to persuade their directors to Wedding Hunt Lush ,meS e H Mr. and Mrs. Gary ' 1 ,1. ' r, "'Mi an y Rebecca Jane Lush and Gary Dean Hunt were united in marriage in a 7 p.m. ceremony on June 16, 1981, at the First United Methodist Church in Anchorage Alaska. The Reverend James Buffington officiated. Rebecca is the daughter of Herbert and Louise Lush of Anchorage. Dean is the son of Dean and Lois Hunt, Lexington. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white organza gown with an empire waistline appliqued in Venice lace. The gown featured large full sleeves and a chapel train. A tulip-shaped cap with matching lace, seed pearls and a walking-length veil completed her ensemble. Matron of honor was Nancy Godwon, Eagle River, Alaska, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Jeannine Hunt, Pendleton, sister of the groom, and Linda Childers, Eagle River. Serivng as best man was Wayne Hill, Anchorage. Dnvid Campbell, Lexington, and Daniel Lush, Bethel, Alaska, were ushers. Soloist was Mrs. Eddi Skow of Heppner. John Gray of Anchorage was accompanist. Special guests at the wedding were the Bob Harrison family, David Campbell and Mrs. Skow who traveled from Oregon to Alaska for the wedding. Following a wedding trip to the Willamette Valley the couple is at home in Oregon where the bride is employed with the Umatilla County ESD and the groom is employed with the Morrow Co. School District as a teacher at Columbia Junior High School in Irrigon. The bride is a graduate of East Anchorage High School and Oregon State University and the groom is a graduate of Heppner High School and OSU. A reception honoring the newlyweds was held at the church following the ceremony and at the Methodist Church in Heppner on June 27, hosted by Mrs. Eldon Padberg, Mrs. Pete Skow, Mrs. Bob Harrison and Mrs. Bob Jepsen. The room and tables were decorated in the wedding colors of shades of green and yellow. Pouring coffee were Mrs. Vernon Munkers and Mrs. L.E. Ruhl, cousin of the groom. i In July 1978, before moving the meals from the Elks building, one of the "bosses" hauled some 30 of the Seniors to the Fair Grounds, telling them what they were to have. One by one, the Seniors got up and expressed their disap proval about such a move. Recently at an AAA (Area Agency on Aging) meeting, when announcements about the Heppner Meal Site were being made, a gentleman from the John Day Mealsite got up and made a statement to the effect that it didn't sound much like "Senior" run. I don't like to see the Seniors who have supported the Senior Meals through the years, being badgered with many untruths. Irene Anhorn reduce their annual board expenses below $20,000. Each of the previous two years we have had board expenses at the $27,000 level. If your power company directors don't get input from you on this matter, I assume we will continue expenses at previous levels, though I feel it is a waste of rate payers' dollars. Respectfully, Eric Anderson Hunt , v July 16, 1981 Punch was served by Mrs. Bill Jepsen and Mrs. Morris McCarl, aunt of the groom. The guest book was attended bv Mrs. Dan Coiner, cousin of the groon, with the gift tabte attended by Nancy Wooben. Special vocal music was furnished by Mrs. Pete Skow who sang "Tenderly" and "More". Brick Street, a college friend of the couples, played the guitar and sang two of his own compositions. Out-of-town guests for the reception were Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Munkers of Salem, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Coiner of Pilot Rock, Miss Nancy Wooben, Miss Rose Zadanosky, Frank Raney and Brick Street of Corvallis, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hunt of Beaverton, Sharon McCarl of Monmouth, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Williams, Dr. and Mrs. Bill Jepsen, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Williams, and Kristi Haguewood of Hermiston, and Miss Jeannine Hunt, sister of the groom and Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Reese of Pendlteon.
